The study deals with the particularities of the religion oriented journalism in terms of the sentence modality. It refers to the speech acts theory and mentions the asymmetry of their locutionary and illocutionary dimension, what means, that the intention of the text is realized regardless of the primary functions of the forms. The authoress finds out, that the religion oriented journalism is beside the common journalism rules and this finding illustrates with the examples of attitude modality (imperatives, questions, wishes, exclamations), certainty modality (indoctrinating, generalizing, absolutizing, inerrability) and volitive modality (using the verbs must and should, and the verbal connection to be necessary).

The study deals with the fundamental function of journalism in its current view, with the commercial character of media institutions and with the internal motivation of their employees. All the three problems are solved in the view of the religious message behaviour in the media communication process. The author concludes that it is a fault to identify the function of journalism with the function to make money, because it mixes the mission of journalism with the mission of media institutions. But the commercial character of the media as the institutions is natural and has an important motivation role. Therefore, it is much easier to motivate the journalists in the commercial media than the journalists in the non-profit ones. The journalists active outside of the commercial scene must be 'better' in their personal characteristics. As the religious communication is in the relation to the profit antagonistic to the media communication, the religious message is confronted here with difficult challenges.

This article deals with the distinctive stylistic features in texts covering religious topics written in newspaper - journalism style - i.e. texts, which also represent religious style. The article examines how the exogenous styles specically affect these texts, and, within the given research environment, attempts to identify the patterns of rhetorical, educational and ofcial style, or also biblical style, even if this particular secondary style subordinated to the religious style is to be considered separately. The analysis evaluates individual exogenous stylistic features - from pathos to didactic expression and to distinct inter-textuality - and assesses the impact that such features may have on the strengthening or weakening of the journalistic functions of the examined texts.
