This article is a reflection on the issue of dignified death in the context of volunteer work in the hospice movement. Its main objective is to show a positive value of volunteer work in this field of human activities and its philosophical grounds. In order to fully grasp the presented problem, issues concerning the sense of death and suffering in human life are raised and the phenomenon and essence of the hospice movement and palliative care are presented . Only on this grounds the issue of volunteer work in hospice movement is being brought up and its characteristic feature - selfless love discussed basing on philosophical concepts of Karol Wojtyla and Tadeusz Styczen.

The basic aim of this article is to show the philosophical development of Edith Stein - stages of the formation of her philosophy and influences which she as a philosopher, was subject to. Besides, another aim of this article it to shed light on Stein's philosophical method together with all the modification which this method underwent. A context to these studies is to progress of Stein's life to the extent to which it influenced her very philosophy.
