For a few years researches have been carried out on war loot brought to Sweden by general Carl Gustaf Wrangel during the Swedish Deludge. The documents, referring to Poland or Polish affairs, are treasured in the Skokloster Castle (Skoklosters slott) where printed papers are held, and at the Swedish National Archive (Riksarkivet) into which manuscripts from the castle library were deposited in 1892. The researches in question were carried out by Polish scholars, accompanied by Swedish academics, librarians, and archivists. In effect, they issued editions of the most valuable (also unique) literary texts and a number of studies as based on the prepared catalogues. Polish documents of the Skokloster Castle are now being included into the Swedish library system Libris, and restoration works are done to the collection Polonicasamlingen.

The author shows how the place for Christian religions in Swedish elementary school curricula has changed over time. The presented analysis reveals that religious education classes have evolved from lessons devoted to Luther’s teachings to lessons about world religions and ethical issues. It appears that religious education classes in their present form, including their teaching content, are the result of Sweden’s advanced laicization and secularization, but also, to a large extent, the result of Swedish society’s shift towards multiculturalism and relativism of values. Faith is becoming more and more an individual and private issue in Sweden. The social discourse on religious traditions as an element of the activity of contemporary Swedish schools presented in the paper indicates how certain organizations are attempting to eliminate Christian elements from the education of the young generation, often without realizing that they constitute an inherent element of Swedish culture.

Strängnäs Cathedral, located in an old town 80 km from Stockholm, houses a rich 17th cen-tury library. In the collection are mainly spoils of the Thirty Years’ War, including Polonica. Altogether, the library stocks 2000 volumes comprising 4000 titles, most of which are writ-ten in Latin and German. In addition to theological dissertations and Bible translations are books on such subjects as law, history, philosophy, medicine, mathematics and grammar. The Polish collection, which was brought over mainly from Olomouc, is relatively small, but early and not known well. On the author’s initiative, it is now being studied within the auspi-ces of the project “Polonica in the Cathedral Library in Strängnäs”.
