'Trybuna Ludu' ('Tribune of the People') in Poland during the communist era was the main organ of the ruling communist party. It realized the tasks outlined by the party. It was a tool of communist propaganda. In 1965-1966 this daily journal attacked the Catholic Church and the Polish Primate Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski. The pretext was the letter of the Polish bishops to the German bishops, which the communist government appeared as an attempt to interfere with the Polish Episcopate in Polish foreign policy. In fact, the purpose of this attack was humiliating the Church in the eyes of the Polish people before the planned celebrations of the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Poland, which event is deemed also to be beginning of the Polish state.

Along with new ideas inspiring the design of science and knowledge, we observe numerous innovations in the ways of publishing research outcomes. It is possible that digital media together with artificial intelligence are causing permanent changes in scientific communication and in the design of research and publications. In the humanities, this phenomenon has led to the production of academic video and “born-digital” publications. How do these tendencies and initiatives fare in the environment of Central European universities? We have conducted an inquiry into this issue within the pilot research project Interfaces of Science, and the answers given by Slovak, Czech and Polish scientists and researchers indicate that they do not enjoy adequate conditions to develop zeal and openness.

The purpose of this article is to gather discussions on two areas of science: theology and media studies in comparative perspective. The authors analyze the methodological aspects of both areas of science and further argue there is a common area of interest which includes research on media and communications. The scientifi c dialogue between theology and media studies is possible due to interdisciplinarity.

This article is interdisciplinary. It concerns the research area of communication and media studies, theology and history. The authors analyze papal documents issued in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which concerned the distribution of the so-called avvisi - handwritten ephemeral writings, commonly regarded as prototypes of modern press. The authors put forward the hypothesis that the criticism of avvisi at that time was mainly based on an immediate political need, while arguments of theological nature had less influence on this attitude. Nevertheless, such an attitude should be regarded as conservative and withdrawing. The authors juxtapose it with a diametrically different approach to the issue of communication, which the Church presented in relation to the mission of Cyril and Methodius. The courageous and trusting attitude of inculturation and treating the language of the Slavic peoples as an instrument of evangelization allowed for more effective missionary activities.
