Beer has for centuries been one of the most popular beverages. Uniejów, due to its strategic location, attracted numerous merchants and traders, and was often visited by clergymen. Therefore there must have been inns in the city to accommodate the travellers, as well as breweries and malt houses producing beer for them and for the inhabitants. The brewing of beer, which initially was not controlled in any way, gradually became a privilege controlled by city guilds. There are many historical records indicating that beer played an important role in the history of Uniejów.
