Christians' social life is based on values that are the moral foundations for an individual. Respecting these norms is what makes Christian communities different from other ones and what shapes their way of thinking and activities. These values are rooted in Jesus Christ as their main source and the personal centre of Christianity. This system of norms comes from the Bible, especially from the New Testament. The author focuses on a theological and moral characteristics of biblical axiology of Christian social life, especially on: 1) Love as the foundation of the social unity of the 'human world', 2) Freedom as a prescriptive value of human existence, 3) Truth as the unifying centre of human existence, 4) Peace and joy as characteristic aspects of Christian life.

To achieve the state of being good as a goal of human efforts requires an axiological and prescriptive basis. This basis is moral virtues and the way they are realized. Philosophy and theology define virtue as a value based on God's law and grace which is the foundation of human morality. To identify these 'strengthening' mechanisms is a constant duty of man, especially the one facing intensive social and cultural changes. The aim of the article is to show an aretological basis of moral life in a society in the context of contemporary liberal and post-modernist trends. The analyses concentrate on three themes: 1) identifying the essence of the life of virtue and the principles behind its development, 2) virtue in practice as a way of organizing social life, 3) social virtues as prescriptive forms of a moral and social order.

Christian love as an ethical and social principle aims at good of man in his personal dignity. It takes its personalistic character from God who is the source and model of mercy. The author analyses and justifies the problem in its three aspects: 1. Biblical foundations of the concept of mercy; 2. Mercy as an internalized love (personalistic option); 3. Attributes and dimensions of personalism of love (participating in the good and dignity of a person, mutuality of the good we experience, faithfulness to personal dignity of a individual; 4.
