For many years, the government of the city Krakow has drawn a lot of attention to the development of business tourism in the city. An example of this is annual research on the convention industry in the city, promotional campaigns for the city of Krakow at key world business tourism trade fairs, and local initiatives transferring knowledge to industry. The convention infrastructure currently under construction in Krakow (four new buildings) as well as the large offering of conference rooms in existing hotels also encourage the use of its potential. The paper analyses the results of studies and data obtained from Poland’s Central Statistical Office to describe the position of Krakow in the business tourism market – also called the convention industry. The city of Krakow is compared to Warsaw – the principal competitor in the country, and several leading Polish cities – Wrocław, Poznań and the Gdansk-Sopot-Gdynia urban area. The relationship between the number of conventions and the number of participants, as well as the number of places in conference rooms was used in the analysis. The results indicate several weak features in the development of business tourism in Krakow and its potential against that of the competition.

Wrocławia, Poznania i Trójmiasta.

The paper concentrates on the theoretical background to regional foresight and then presents a case study of a regional foresight project on tourism, a key sector for regional economy. The origins and objectives of the project are presented together with methodologies applied and overall results achieved in the region.

Podmioty, nawiązując ścisłą współpracę, tworzą "nową wiedzę" i dzielą ją między siebie, dzięki czemu następuje swoista fuzja wiedzy starej i nowej. To połączenie wiedzy odgrywa kluczową rolę w innowacyjności i kreatywności przedsiębiorstwa: zróżnicowane pomysły mogą zrodzić nowe i wartościowe rozwiązania dzięki interakcjom zachodzącym w ramach pracy zespołu projektowego. W części teoretycznej przeprowadzono kwerendę literatury polskiej i anglojęzycznej poświęconej wysokospecjalistycznym usługom biznesowym i ich roli w kreowaniu innowacji w wyniku kooperacji danych przedsiębiorstw. Część empiryczną stanowi analiza i ocena wyników uzyskanych na podstawie przeprowadzonych w 2013 roku badań ankietowych wśród przedsiębiorstw przemysłu spotkań z Krakowa.

Celem pracy jest identyfikacja podejścia przedstawicieli Profesjonalnych Organizatorów Kongresów (Professional Congres Organizer – PCO) do problematyki innowacji w sektorze spotkań i wydarzeń. W szczególności zaprezentowane zostanie postrzeganie znaczenia innowacji, jej rodzajów i uwarunkowań implementacji. Praca składa się z trzech części: przeglądu literaturowego, części metodycznej i empirycznej. Ta ostatnia przygotowana została na podstawie wyników wywiadów pogłębionych przeprowadzonych z przedstawicielami PCO zlokalizowanych w Krakowie. Analizy wyników dokonano przy użyciu programu GABEC.

The topic of innovations is relatively broadly discussed in the literature, but the market dynamics requires its systematic updating. The number of participants was estimated, with foreigners and their countries of origin identified. The identification of the institutional profile of clients ordering incentive trips in Krakow is also presented. The structure of revenues of venues hosting motivation events was also assessed.
