La polyfonctionnalite des connecteurs : la relation de contraste dans les textes juridiques comparables relatifs au domaine de la boulangerie-pâtisserie

The aim of the analysis is to investigate how connectors contribute to the relations of contrast in the texts concerning one of the fields of handicraft, i.e. baking and confectionery. We will examine the characteristic features of selected connectors and compare these mechanisms in French and Polish texts. The first part of the study contains a short overview of the current research on connectors in French and Polish literature. In the second part, we present a comparable corpus including original French and Polish texts: collective labour agreements and statutes in the field of baking-confectionery. In the final, third part of the article, we conduct a comparative analysis of selected connectors showing the relation of contrast (French mais and Polish ale).

Celem niniejszej analizy jest sprawdzenie, w jaki sposób konektory przyczyniają się do powstawania relacji kontrastu w tekstach dotyczących jednej z dziedzin rękodzieła to jest piekarstwa-cukiernictwa. Zbadamy cechy charakterystyczne wybranych konektorów i porównamy te mechanizmy w tekstach francuskich i polskich. Pierwsza część pracy zawiera krótki przegląd dotychczasowych badań nad konektorami w literaturze francuskiej i polskiej. W części drugiej przedstawimy korpus porównywalny obejmujący oryginalne teksty francuskie i polskie: zbiorowe układy pracy i statuty z dziedziny piekarstwa-cukiernictwa. W ostatniej, trzeciej, części pracy przeprowadzimy analizę porównawczą wybranych konektorów tworzących relację kontrastu (francuskie mais i polskie ale).

L’objectif de cette analyse est d’observer comment les connecteurs participent à la relation de contraste dans les textes relatifs au domaine de la boulangerie-pâtisserie, en d’autres termes, d’examiner ce que leurs caractéristiques intrinsèques confèrent à la création de ces types de relations et de comparer ces phénomènes dans les documents français et polonais. Premièrement, nous allons décrire brièvement l’état des recherches sur les connecteurs dans la littérature française et polonaise. Deuxièmement, nous allons nous pencher sur notre corpus comparable constitué de textes originaux français et polonais : les conventions collectives et les statuts. Puis, nous allons mener l’analyse comparative des connecteurs choisi concernant de la relation de contraste (français mais et polonais ale).

This article attempts to describe the means of evaluation applied in French legal language. Analysing verdicts from the French court (Cour de cassation), this paper attempts to show ways to uncover the values system held by the judge. In order to achieve this aim, four groups of evaluative operators (modal truth-functional connectives, amplifying operators, emotive-evaluative modal operators and mental operators) are shown. The corpus under analysis is characterised by three aspects: intentional, conventional and institutional, as it makes references to the group of set convictions concerning the nature of a particular community. Thus one could see here a relation between the values behind the arguments in the verdict and the language used to express them.

The intention of this article is to demonstrate argumentative connectors in language for specific purposes, on the basis of French legal language. Assuming that connectors comprise an integral part of every judicial decision structure, our intention is to demonstrate some characteristic features of adjudications given by French court of cassation. We will intend to show their role and function in this distinctive kind of text.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest próba przedstawienia konektorów argumentacyjnych w języku specjalistycznym na przykładzie francuskiego języka prawniczego. Wychodząc z założenia, że konektory stanowią integralną część struktury każdego orzeczenia sądowego, przedstawimy cechy charakterystyczne wyroków wydawanych przez francuski Sąd Kasacyjny. Spróbujemy pokazać jaka jest ich rola i na czym polega funkcja w tym szczególnym gatunku tekstu.

Notre objectif est de réfléchir sur le rôle des connecteurs argumentatifs dans la création d’un texte cohérent du discours juridictionnel. Nous partons de l’idée que les connecteurs font intégralement partie de la structure logique de la décision. C’est pourquoi nous allons présenter la macrostructure des arrêts rendus par la Cour de cassation française. Nous allons tenter de montrer comment l’utilisation des connecteurs participe d’une stratégie générale de construction d’un ethos rationnel et logique pour essayer de mettre en relief la présence des connecteurs argumentatifs dans les jugements de la Cour de cassation.

Predication in a legal language Law is connected to a language by means of which it is expressed. The important issue that should be taken into account involves not only understanding and interepretation of a legal language, but also the process of preparing of legal texts as well as their translation and edition. So as to reach the aim, a broad description of linguistic facts in the area of language for special purposes seems to be significant. The analysis of the professional discourse allows distinguishing a spectrum of typical features. The recent research points out the need to describe the phenomenon of predication (verbs, nominals and participles) in order to consider the complexity fo legal language phenomenon (Lerat 2001, 2002, 2008). The main objective of this paper is to give an outline of predication expressed in a legal language by means of the description of the lexical-semantic as well as morpho-syntactic parameters based on the corpus of the selected texts.
