Writers, ethnographers, artists searched here not only for its exotic character but also homeliness and primitive nature. The authoress tried to show how the categories such as regionalism and provincialism created the 'Hucul' myth. These relations between Polish and 'Hucul' culture should be perceived as a reformulation of the Polish provenance model. The paper discusses also the colonial aspects of the Polish borderland (Kresy) discourse.
