The aim of four reported research was to study, mainly with the aid of author’s Creative Behaviour Questionnaire (CBQ), the general profile of managers and the small business owners. The main hypothesis was that the success in business is due to special personality disposition called efficacy of personality which is responsible for neutralisation of fear, depletion of internal resources, and for the autonomy of axiological system. Three factors of the CBQ postulated to measure this disposition, namely Strength of Ego, Internal Locus of Evaluation, and Self-realisation were salient in the tested group of subjects. Groups were also tested by means of Buss and Plomin EAS questionnaire, the risk taking, and the well-being questionnaires, as well as transgression’s and readiness to start business scales. The obtained pattern of traits fits well to the hypotheses: leaders are more transgressive, their personalities are more efficient in terms of CBQ model, they are free of anxiety syndromes, are more oriented toward instrumental risk taking.

Further analyses of the factorial structure of the Creative Behavior Questionnaire (an operational definition of the author’s model of The Styles of Creative Behavior) are presented in the article together with the discussion of the existence of general factor of personality. The five-factor pattern isolated so far (N=1390, principal components, Varimax rotation) – 1 Internal Locus of Evaluation, 2. Flexibility of Cognitive Structure, 3. Self-realization, 4. Strength of Ego, and 5. Life Approval, has been checked on a new sample of subjects (entrepreneurs, managers and control groups: N=730). New exploratory factor analysis (principal components, Varimax rotation) has confirmed the stability of first four factors, while the confirmatory analysis (SEM) has shown that four-factor model is satisfactorily fitted to the observed variance-covariance matrix. The goodness-of-fit index (GFI) is equal 0,919: The root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA)=0,042, and the Incremental fit index Delta2)= 0,920. In the next step the hierarchical confirmatory analysis has revealed (GFI=0,917, RMSEA=0,042, Delta2=0,917) the existence of the General Factor of Creative Personality (an apex of creativity) that was interpreted as the efficacy of personality, i.e. the main mechanism that integrates human’s endeavours. The articles ends with the discussion of significance of the finding for the theory of creativity.

The basic assumption of the article is that entrepreneurship could be best explained on the ground of psychological theories dealing with creativity. Therefore, the author’s model of „The Style of Creative Behavior” measured by „The Creative Behavior Questionnaire” (CBQ) was used as the main theoretical framework in three studies presented. Other models were also used: „The Formal Characteristic of Behavior – Temperament Inventory” by J. Strelau, „Match Problems II” (Adaptive Flexibility of Thinking) by J. P. Guilford, as well as D. C. McClelland’s model of the need of achievement, measured by „Widerszal-Bazyl Questionnaire of Motivation”. The four factors, out of five, from the CBQ: The Strength of ego, Self-realization, Flexibility of cognitive system, and Internal locus of evaluation proved to be the most efficient in discriminating entrepreneurs and effective managers from control groups – unemployed people, and group of administrative workers. This corroborates the results obtained in previous author’s research.

The author discusses the psychological determinants of scientific creativity within the framework of his own model of "Creative Behaviour Styles" which includes such dimensions as efficacy of the personality system, efficacy of the cognitive system and axiological autonomy. He outlines the theoretical structure of the model and the results of its empirical validation in the field of science and practice (creative enterprise). He also presents the results of a study of psychological temporality and its relations to subjective probability of successful realisation of life goals.
