Introduction of standard programmes, allowing for big savings of money, work, and time in introduction in information systems, largely facilitated the work of users of digital computers. Another modern information tool, enjoying a growing popularity recently, is the system of data base management. At present there are available and successfully used (due to compatibility of ICL-1900 and 0dra-1300 systems) propositions of the ICL company, and especially the NIMMS system and data base management system DSM-2. The article discusses the possibility and advisability of employing two NIMMS packages by the Housing Construction Company in Łódź. These are Requirements Planning and POWER packages. The Requirements Planning package, on the basis of material plan of buildings assembly along with construction completion time and warehouse information about* stocks level, defines real demand for production of component elements of buildings and for purchase of materials necessary for securing production requirements. The POWER package performs balancing of production plan and production capacity of machinery and equipment by means of PERT network and provides a feasible time scheduling for site assembly. NIMMS system packages are especially valuable for those companies which must tackle the problem of multi-stage assembly control, and the above mentioned Housing Construction Company is among those companies. Moreover, the user employing DMS-2 can easily and quickly expand possibilities of the NIMMS System having an easy access to its information resources.
