It is more common nowadays for book reviews, published in the high circulation press, to contain elements of evaluation of translated text, although they are rarely based on a serious analysis, and limit themselves to pinpointing translator’s mistakes. The article comments on the translator’s model mistakes and their significance for the text, as well as the reviewers’ typical practices.

The task of the literary translator is commonly understood as comprising of two major elements. One is that of a translation proper - that is, a “conversion” of an original text into a new linguistic version, and the other being that of an agent or promoter who wants to attract attention of publishers, readers and critics. The question is whether the latter of the two remains justifiable in the changing book market. The article, based on a questionnaire conducted among a group of active translators, argues that the role of a translator as a promoter remains important only in very particular cases.

'Wszystkie zajęcia Yoirysa Manuela' [All occupations of Yoirys Manuel] by Adam Kwaśny (2017) is a collection of stories about the inhabitants of the city of Trinidad in Cuba, which can be read as an attempt to look for a new approach in the travel literature and reportage writing. By the use of the techniques typical for magical realism and non-fiction literature at the same time, the work shows the reality of the city from the perspective of its inhabitants, or more precisely: from the perspective of a narrator coming from the outside world, but sharing the beliefs and worldview of the described people.

This article analyses statements on the theory of literature expressed by two prominent Polish writers of fiction – Andrzej Sapkowski and Jacek Dukaj. Although their remarks are scattered and spoken in a journalistic tone, they deal with important topics concerning fantasy and SF, their genre features and relationships with other genres of literature.

Artykuł zawiera analizę wypowiedzi teoretycznoliterackich dwóch ważnych polskich pisarzy fantastyki – Andrzeja Sapkowskiego i Jacka Dukaja. Choć są to wypowiedzi rozproszone i utrzymane w publicystycznym tonie, podejmowane są w nich ważne tematy dotyczące fantasy i SF, ich cech gatunkowych oraz relacji z innymi typami literatury.
