Punktem wyjścia dla podjętych w artykule rozważań są uwagi na temat sozologii. Autor proponuje określanie terminem „sozomedycyna” zagadnień dotyczących badania wpływów środowiska naturalnego na te aspekty ludzkiej egzystencji, które podlegają działaniom medycznym (w zakresie zarówno klinicznym, doświadczalnym, jak i teoretycznym). Autor proponuje wyodrębnienie ekofilozofii medycyny, mogącej być rozumianą jako filozofia sozomedycyny. Propozycja ufundowania ekofilozofii medycyny wiąże się z koniecznością określenia jej zadań badawczych. W artykule zostały wskazane dwa obszary badań dla filozofii sozomedycyny: problem definiowania zdrowia i choroby w relacji do środowiska naturalnego oraz problem zmienności zadań i celów medycyny w odniesieniu do dynamiki zmian środowiska naturalnego. Artykuł stanowi przyczynek do ekofilozofii medycyny.

The starting point for the considerations presented in this article are remarks on sozology. The author suggests defining the notion of “sozomedicine” as embracing issues related to the influence of the environment on the aspects of human existence that belong to various areas of medical activity (clinical, experimental and theoretical). The author proposes creating an ecophilosophy of medicine, which can be understood as a philosophy of sozomedicine. The proposal of the foundation of an ecophilosophy of medicine is related to the necessity of defining its research activities. Two areas of investigation in the philosophy of sozomedicine are presented in this article: the problem of defining health and disease in reference to the environment and the problem of the changeability of the tasks and aims of medicine in reference to the dynamics of changes of the environment. This article is a contribution to the ecophilosophy of medicine.

Biobanki i badania genetyczne w chwili obecnej rozwijają się bardzo dynamicznie. W polskim piśmiennictwie naukowym nie ma, jak dotychczas, publikacji przedstawiających wyzwania i dylematy etyczne, jakie są z tym związane. W pracy przedstawione zostały nadzieje i obawy związane z powstaniem i działalnością biobanków na świecie oraz problemy etyczne i prawne z tym związane. Przede wszystkim skupiono się na specyfice problemu świadomej zgody w kontekście wykorzystywania próbek biologicznych do badań naukowych, problemie komercjalizacji tych badań i związaną z tym kwestią patentowania genów. Poruszono także sprawę ryzyka dyskryminacji ze względu na dziedzictwo genetyczne oraz, szczególnie istotne w kontekście badań genetycznych, prawo do niewiedzy. Na tle standardów europejskich odniesiono się także do sytuacji biobanków w Polsce.

The paper presents the most significant ethical and legal problems connected with biobanks in the world. The issues brought up most frequently in this context are informed consent, commercialization, property rights and granting gene patents, the risk of discrimination, and a patient’s right to known and not to know. At the end the situation of Polish biobanks is analyzed with reference to European standards.

The authors concentrate on human moral choices in relation to medical institutions. They focus on mutual relations between a human and medical institutions. In the light of the consideration, the authors claim that various individuals functioning in the same institution have various objectives and different ways of achieving them. The objectives of physician in relation to necessity of making moral choices depend on his position in a hospital. The question arises, whether it is possible to consider moral choices of medical institutions. The answer is positive, but it refers to the term “poli-ethics”. This term concerns both moral (ethical) and political activities of medical institutions.
