Ostap Ortwin’s concept of tragic theatre has a deeply anthropological, universal and overall human aspect. The author derives the modern concept of tragedy from the human psyche, where he places the source of doom. He sees its implementation in the iron logic of action and the discrepancy between the ideal, the imagined, and reality. In the article I deal with the matter of three fundamental aspects, in which Ortwin puts humanity in his essays and studies. The Lvovian critic’s theory of theatre is analyzed in the context of the Nietzschean concept of the Dionysian, the figure of Prometheus and the notion of tragedy.

Koncepcja teatru tragicznego Ostapa Ortwina ma wymiar głęboko antropologiczny, uniwersalny, ogólnoludzki. Dramaturg wyprowadza nowoczesne pojęcie tragizmu z psychiki człowieka, tam umiejscawia źródło fatalności, a jej realizację widzi w żelaznej logice czynów oraz w rozdźwięku między ideałem a rzeczywistością, między tym, co wyobrażone a tym, co realne. W artykule podejmuję kwestie zasadniczych trzech wymiarów ról, w których Ortwin rozpatruje/obsadza człowieka w swoich esejach i studiach. Analizę teorii teatralnej lwowskiego krytyka przeprowadzam w kontekście Nietzscheańskiej kategorii dionizyjskości, figury Prometeusza i pojęcia tragizmu.
