Contemporary classifi cations of the European countries regarding geographical, historical or political factors are similar. The aim of this study is to determine whether, taking into account economic indicators popular division of Europe into Western Europe, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean countries is still wellfounded. The main hypothesis of the article states that the clusters of European countries, formed taking into account the economic conditions, to some extent, will coincide with the clusters formed on the basis of geographical, historical or political factors, however some countries will stand out from the resulting groups.
