W artykule zaprezentowano wykorzystanie Internetu jako nowoczesnego środka komunikacji przez studentów kierunku pedagogicznego wybranych katowickich uczelni. W podjętych badaniach obejmujących zbiorowość 546 osób autorzy poszukiwali odpowiedzi na pytanie, jaką funkcję pełni Internet w życiu respondentów oraz jaki wpływ wywiera na ich kontakty społeczne. Uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły między innymi stwierdzić, że studenci kierunku pedagogicznego wykorzystują Internet w podstawowym zakresie jako przestrzeń wymiany informacji, konsumpcji oraz kontaktu, zachowując przy tym krytycyzm wobec znajdujących się tam materiałów, ofert i informacji. Badania potwierdzają również istniejącą lukę pokoleniową w zakresie obsługi komputera i korzystania z zasobów sieci. Ponadto pokazują, że Internet pozwala w efektywny sposób podtrzymywać już istniejące relacje, a także ułatwia nawiązywanie nowych kontaktów o słabych więziach.

The article presents the problem of using the Internet by students of pedagogy at Katowice Universities as a modern means of communication. The survey conducted on a group of 546 students attempted to find an answer to the question what kind of functions the Internet has in the life of the respondents and how it affects their social relations. The results of the survey demonstrated that the extent to which students of pedagogy use the Internet is fundamental, i.e., it is used as the space for an exchange of information, consumption and contact. The students, however, take a critical approach to the materials, offers and information presented on the Internet. This analysis also confirms the existing generation gap in computer skills and using the resources of the web. Moreover, the results show that the Internet helps cultivating the already existing relations in an effective way, and also facilitates developing new relations of casual character.
