Głód autentyzmu

100%
PL
Tekst dotyczy rozumienia i poszukiwania autentyzmu/ autentyczności.

The article deals with the question of how authenticity should be defined and looked for. The search for authenticity is visible in various spheres of life, but especially in tourism. The present analysis is rather theoretical than empirical, and contains two theses. According to the first one it is very difficult to discern the meaning of authenticity which is denied by untruth, lies, hypocrisy, pretentiousness, falsity, insincerity, artificiality, forging and faking. Nowadays, a lot of artefacts of culture are just like that: superficial and not authentic enough. According to the other thesis the search for authenticity is being carried out in the times that have hardly anything to do with authenticity; that is to say, in modern times the world is faked and completely artificial.

Scandals can occur in various spheres of life and can involve customs, religion, politics, or art. Of course, these aspects are sometimes intertwined, but the author’s considerations here concern primarily scandals related to art, both real art scandals and media scandals, their manifestations and effects. The underlying premise is that an art-related media scandal is kitsch in reverse - that is, a marketing action intended to help the functioning of the art market. Under the impact of provocations and media scandals, the system of art’s functioning is undergoing a profound transformation. Although scandals bring art (or at least some of its manifestations) into wider social circulation, it is an extremely trivial and superficial circulation; above all, it is not always adequate to the value of the art offering.

The article begins with considerations concerning enclaves that may be positively valued: those that are a sort of “closing off”. Then, the main issues concerning the understanding of the mass culture, the Internet and other electronic devices co-creating the contemporary media culture will be discussed. Above all, we will concentrate on the problem of whether an isolation from the media culture is potentially possible in the contemporary civilization. We conclude that, unfortunately, this sort of full and consistent isolation is practically not possible.

This article is concerned with the possibility of blank spots in sociology – felds and topics which, for some reason, are not being researched. That is not to say that such blank spots indeed exist, or that they are noticeable – rather, the paper illustrates their potential character. The reader is, however, presented with numerous sources and conditions which can contribute to the occurrence of such blank spots, or at least to one’s awareness of them. The frst one is associated with ideology and the context of power; the second with the broad sense of correctness; the third with the functioning of paradigms and fashions; the fourth is encompassed by the very formula of contemporary sociology, whereas the ffth has its origin in the techniques and possibilities of access to scientifc papers. The paper presented here provides an introduction to them.

Identities in the contemporary world are not ready-made but are to a large extent constructed by individuals and groups of individuals in the process of social and cultural life. Practically all aspects of that life – perceived as own physical, mental, and social features – followed by autoreflection on them, as well as contacts with other people, social memory, power, or mass culture, may influence the process in which identity is being created. The paper focuses on separation and characterisation of factors that play a role in identity construction.

Praktycznie wszystkie przejawy tego życia – postrzeganie własnych cech fizycznych, psychicznych i społecznych wraz z autorefleksją nad nimi, kontakty z innymi ludźmi, pamięć społeczna, władza, kultura masowa – mogą oddziaływać w procesie konstruowania tożsamości. Artykuł poświęcony jest wyodrębnieniu i scharakteryzowaniu tych czynników biorących udział w konstruowaniu tożsamości.

The thesis of this paper is that Polish humanities exists and is doing well in institutional sense but at the same time it has no social impact. That being so, on one hand we have dozens if not hundreds of units in which thousands of academics work. On the other hand we observe a limited external influence of these institutions and their employees. This impressive institutional and at the same time personal development seems to ignore external goals and functions or undervalue them in comparison to the institutions’ own development and functioning. There are many reasons for this, and not only academic institutions themselves should be blamed for it. It can be claimed that the modern world seems to see humanities as something inimportant, and it happens due to various conditions. One can see a parallel between the satae of the humanities and the state of the culture in general with the whole socio-cultural context, including the humanities. The article consists of five parts. The first one is about the reasons of the humanities institutional development. In the second part, I refer to the character of social sciences and humanities. In the third part, I mention the motivation to practice them. The fourth part deals with external conditions of practicing social sciences and humanities, and the fifth with their important tasks.

The first part of the article presents a general theoretical reflection on the conceptions of crises and threats. A thesis is proposed that differentiation of crises, threats and catastrophes is by no means obvious, and this pertains also to their causes and effects. The second part of the paper lists a few dozen events from the history of European civilization which testify to an almost continual existence or at least recurrence of various crises, conflicts and problems. Moreover, the recurring observations of intellectuals with a critical, at times even catastrophic outlook on European (or in broader terms – western) history are mentioned. The last part of the paper is an attempt to answer the question of the nature and causes of the present crisis of civilization and its potential further implications. The author also reflects on whether we are facing a crisis (or perhaps a threat) of our civilization only, or whether it is a threat that pertains to the entire contemporary civilization on a global scale.

Contemporary experience of identity began to undergo radical changes under the influence of numerous factors, multiculturality included. Multiculturality is understood here as an awareness of the co-occurrence of two or more social groups with relatively different cultural features within the same space (or in immediate vicinity of one another but without a clearly defined boundary, or in a situation when two or more such groups aspire to occupy the same space). Such an experience of identity is accompanied by a specific “multiculturality of cultures” which increasingly tend to adopt a hybrid nature. It seems that the times of peace, equilibrium, stability, constancy and explicit identity are irrevocably gone – the rule of the idea of identity as something permanent, homogeneous and common has come to an end. Although identity has become problematic, doubtful and blurred it is also a creative and promising challenge. After all the fluidity, changeability, temporality and hybridity of identity correspond to the fluidity, changeability and diversity of the contemporary Western civilizati
