Combat stress in the context of counter-insurgency US-led Operation Enduring Freedom in AfghanistanThe article discusses the problems associated with combat stress in the context of counter-insurgency US-led Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The author analyzes how this phenomenon was defined historically as well as during the above-mentioned conflict; he tries to define how it could have shaped the behavior of the soldier on the battlefield, what precautions were undertaken to counteract it and what were the consequences of long-term stress on the soldiers. The author of the article mentions the main factors which generated combat stress and presents the role of leaders in stress management. Following the theoretical part of the article, the author shows the environment of combat stress on an example of a concrete combat situation and an effective reaction and conduct of the leader-commander in this situation. American field manuals and literature relating to military medicine – psychiatry, as well as materials published by the US military and government institutions, have been used as source materials for the above publication.

This article provides a detailed analysis of the actions conducted by units of the German 10th Infantry Division in the final phase of the Battle of Verdun in December 1916. The study covers such issues as the influence of the terrain on the course of the battle, the characteristics of the positions held, the tactics and combat effectiveness of both sides, the attitude of the command staff, and the losses incurred. Additionally, in order to paint a complete picture of the events, the article also analyses the operations conducted by the French units based on materials from the archives of the Defence Historical Service (Le Service Historique de la Défense) in Vincennes. Based on the analysis of the losses of the German 10th Infantry Division, the author determined the percentage of soldiers of Polish nationality in the ranks of this unit. The text is supplemented by 4 maps, prepared by the author on the basis of available archival sources.

In diesem Aufsatz hat der Autor die Aktionen der Einheiten der deutschen 10. Infanteriedivision in der Endphase der Schlacht von Verdun im Dezember 1916 eingehend analysiert. Zu den Überlegungen gehören Aspekte, wie der Einfluss des Geländes auf den Verlauf der Kämpfe, die Merkmale der gehaltenen Stellungen, die Taktik und die Kampfkraft beider Seiten, die Haltung der Führungsstäbe und die erlittenen Verluste. Um ein vollständiges Bild der Ereignisse zu vermitteln, hat der Autor parallel dazu die Aktionen der französischen Einheiten dargestellt und dabei ausführlich auf französische Archivquellen des Le Service Historique de la Défense in Paris zurückgegriffen. Auf der Grundlage einer Analyse der Verluste der 10. Deutschen Infanteriedivision ermittelte der Autor den Anteil der Soldaten polnischer Nationalität in den Reihen dieser Einheit. Der Text wird durch vier Karten ergänzt, die der Autor auf der Grundlage der verfügbaren Archivquellen zusammengestellt hat.

W artykule autor dokonał szczegółowej analizy działań jednostek niemieckiej 10 Dywizji Piechoty w ostatniej fazie bitwy pod Verdun w grudniu 1916 r. Rozważania te objęły zagadnienia takie, jak: wpływ ukształtowania terenu na przebieg walk, charakterystyka zajmowanych pozycji, taktyka i skuteczność bojowa obu stron, postawa kadry dowódczej oraz poniesione straty. Dla ukazania pełnego obrazu tych wydarzeń autor równolegle przedstawił działania jednostek francuskich, szeroko korzystając z francuskich źródeł archiwalnych z Le Service Historique de la Défense w Vincennes. Na podstawie analizy strat niemieckiej 10 Dywizji Piechoty autor określił procent żołnierzy polskiej narodowości w szeregach tej jednostki. Uzupełnienie tekstu stanowią cztery mapy opracowane przez autora na podstawie dostępnych źródeł archiwalnych.
