The writer formulates a thesis that teaching religious education in Polish school contributes to developing the skills of dialogue by children and young people. It is justified by the theological character of religious education that aims at helping a young man – by the means of faith – to enter into a dialogue with revealed God. The very God, standing in the centre of religious education, invites to a dialogue. During religious education the task of a catechist and pupil is to enter into a dialogue understood as an attempt of joint exploration of truth and its better understanding. By no means can this dialogue be perceived as a technique of inventing the truth and creating it through a compromise of participants. This article was prepared as a polemical voice towards the earlier statement of M. Cackowska and P. Stańczyk who reject the possibility of introducing pupils into the dialogue reality during religious education.
