Arranged by topics, the essay covers the early sixteenth – century "Introductorium compendiosum in Tractatum sphaerae materialis Ioannis de Sacrobusto" written in Latin by the Polish scholar Jan of Głogów. The essay explores diverse aspects of his deliberations about the eclipse of the sun which was said to happen during the time of Christ’s death. In Jan`s opinion which was based on astronomical knowledge and ancient writers` judgments, the blocking of the light of the sun when the moon was between it and the earth, was a miraculous event which did not follow the known physical laws of nature and was therefore thought to be caused by God.

The article first gives a short presentation of Angelus Silesius (1624-1677) or, Johannes Scheffler, and then more thoroughly analyses the first part of his work entitled Idea causarum fundatarum, transeundi a Lutheranis ad Ecclesiam Catholicam; comprehensarum Illationibus duabus which has been forgotten today. The baroque writer used exclusively brief statements which confirm the truth of the Roman faith and simultaneously debunk arguments in favor of Protestant religion. Above all his work was supposed to provide polemical ammunition for the supporters of the Roman Catholic Church and to justify discontinuing relations with Protestantism. In order to achieve this purpose, the writer enumerated and discussed arguments related to the most important arguable theological issues, such as the apostolic succession, miracles, attitude to God’s Word, religious life, celibacy, the figure of Luther and his adherents, etc.

The article proposes an overview of some literary aspects of the rich narrative material present in Anselm Polak’s account of the visit to the Holy Land undertaken in autumn 1507. As a factual guidebook giving information about Palestine, Anselm’s work offers a comprehensive description of both: the places where Christ lived, and historic monuments the Christians worshipped. As for the artifacts analyzed, the Palestinian historical, political and social context was described. This perspective was expanded through a special coexistence of Christians and Saracens. Among others, the article examines the fanciful tales recurring in Anselm’s work, such as stories about a snake and the Blessed Virgin. The characteristic style of the writer, both Latin vocabulary and syntax alongside to their deviation from the classical Latin grammar, are also discussed. This presentation of such diverse dimensions of the work aims to highlight the values of Anselm’s writing unnoticed by other scholars.

Artykuł stanowi przegląd treści pieśni safickiej Rudolfa Agrykoli Młodszego adresowanej do biskupa poznańskiego Jana Lubrańskiego, którą włączył do swej dysertacji kosmologicznej „Introductio in Ptolemaei Cosmographiam cum longitudinibus et latitudinibus regionum et civitatum celebriorum” (Kraków 1512, 1517) Jan ze Stobnicy (1470–1530). Jako poemat panegiryczny wiersz Rudolfa stanowi opowieść o działalności i osiągnięciach biskupa. Wsławił się on zarówno licznymi inwestycjami budowlanymi, zakładaniem miast, patronatem roztaczanym nad artystami, jak i przymiotami swojej osobowości. W artykule podjęto próbę charakterystyki pochwały hierarchy, która całkowicie odpowiadała oczekiwaniom ówczesnych czytelników.
