The paper concerns the current and important issue concerning the bankruptcy prediction of banks. During the recent financial crisis, many European and American banks declared bankruptcy, and many other banks showed worse financial results. Hence, the intense research on methods and tools for reducing the risk of bankruptcy of such financial institutions seems to be important. Clear regulations and requirements of the legislative and supervisory bodies regarding accounting principles and financial reporting of banks are equally important. The authors found that the variety and availability of different models for predicting bankruptcy of banks, as well as the transparency of dedicated accounting rules for banks, affect the stability of the banking sector.

Artykuł dotyczy aktualnego problemu prognozowania bankructwa banków. W okresie ostatniego kryzysu finansowego wiele europejskich i amerykańskich banków ogłosiło upadłość, a znaczna część pozostałych banków miała gorsze wyniki finansowe.
The paper deals with the problems of public and legal burdens of cooperative banks operating in Poland, in terms of their limits on the strength of taxes (various types of mandatory fees and levies for the state). Comparative public and legal burdens of banks are discussed in the literature. As the main research goal, the authors chose to examine the situation of cooperative banks in the context of increasing tax and legal burdens. The article uses the desk research method, comparative method and quantitative analysis of cooperative banks’ tax burden for calculating the author’s tax restrictiveness index. The authors proposed their own definition of the tribute paid by cooperative banks to the state and institutions subordinate to it. An interesting perspective on the subject of effectiveness of cooperative banks in comparison with their tax burden was analyzed. The paper also exposes the methodology of examining public-law burdens in cooperative banks and conducted a stress limit analysis for these burdens (tributes) on the example of 309 banks – participants of the Association Protection System – SOZ BPS. It is important to point out that the tax restrictiveness index (WD) in the studied group of cooperative banks was calculated. A new concluding case on problems related to further raising the tax burden of cooperative banks in Poland was also presented.

The article concerns the issue of reporting burdens on cooperative banks in Poland. These are entities referred to as SNCI (Small and Non-Complex Institutions), i.e. small and not conducting comprehensive financial activities. Meanwhile, they are constantly required to prepare and send numerous reports to many different institutions. Such a situation is incomprehensible when one of the fundamental principles of the European Union is recalled – the principle of proportionality, which was intended to limit this type of practice. The main purpose of the article was to assess the reporting burden of cooperative banks in Poland and to indicate the possibility of changes in this area based on own research. The research hypothesis was: cooperative banks in Poland are burdened with too many reports and there are possibilities to reduce some of them. The research methods were: in-depth literature studies, desk research analysis, surveys conducted using the CAWI method in March–April 2023 on a group of 96 presidents of management boards of cooperative banks operating in Poland. The main conclusions from the research were the confirmation of the excessive burden of cooperative banks with many legally required reports for various institutions, the repeatability of information provided in various reports and the existence of space to limit the preparation of certain reports by cooperative banks, and, above all, the effective implementation of the proportionality principle for cooperative banks.
