An aim of considerations is to present the problem of consequences of digitisation and their convergence in the face of lack of transnational, Union’s legislative solutions of this phenomenon. If the media concentration (especially related to the press, radio and TV) is regulated within the framework of EU countries, then the facilitated by the convergence transborder transfer of concentration and competition (primarily on the Internet) is economically effective but socially harmful and does not face constraints at the EU level. In his article, the author used methods of the logic analysis, the method of direct observation (the author participated in the management processes in managerial posts in three media corporations) as well as indirect observation (the documentary method), the method of analogies, comparative and causal analysis. The article is of the conceptual nature.

The inconstancy of business and competition models influence the need for constant redefining of media enterprises strategy. In case of polish regional radio station companies, the destabilization of subscription revenue and rules governing their division is an additional factor underlining the instability of management conditions. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that in the face of persistent destabilization of external factors, public media companies have limited strategic choices and may maximize their income by increasing activity in the advertising market and value co-creation with the users of media products. The paradox of those companies actions lies in the fact that they seek for stabilization of their financial situation in the highly competitive and unstable advertising market and that the forced competition with other commercial media must accompany carrying out the public media mission. Those solutions are based on the example of the Polish Radio Gdańsk SA.

New media coopetition: between consumer-creator and organization The purpose of this article is to suggest a concept of “new media coopetition” – a comprehensive relationship between active media users and media companies as well as between the companies themselves. Co-creation of media contents by the users is a strategic challenge for media companies. Users who create texts, films or music recordings become competitors to the professional authors. Not only are users recipients and creators at the same time, but they are also competitors to media organizations. Coopetition is a strategy bringing benefits to the parties involved by making them simultaneously compete and cooperate with the competitors (users). While in the traditional version coopetition only concerns relationship between the organizations, I propose that it embraces the form of “new media coopetition”, which would also take the relationship between users and media organizations into account.

The consequences of co-creation of the value in media by the usersThe usage of activities and emotions in the so-called background, the renaissance of pictography, crowdsourcing, gamification, geolocation, life-streaming and evolution of contactless technology – all of these terms are connected with the mass mobility of the media users and bring about the decline of the world of traditional mass media. Such are the consequences of progress in convergence and advancement of computing and telecommunication technologies. They may also be seen as signs of users’ activity, the result of co-creation of value for stakeholders and by stakeholders of media companies. Co-creation, which not only could, but should be administered.
