The article presents a relatively unknown issue of Polish-US economic cooperation i.e. Polish export to this country during Bierut’s and Gomułka’s administrations. The chronology of the article is justified by the US policy, which in the years 1945–1967 can be divided into two periods: 1945–1960 and 1961–1967. It is to be stressed that these two periods differed a lot from each other and were characterized by different dynamics. The text is based mainly on documents created by the Foreign Department of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which were deposited in the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw. Auxiliary materials, such as statistical yearbooks, Journals of Laws of the Republic of Poland, English literature, newspapers and magazines, were also indispensable for the analysis of the problem. The article presents Polish export to the US in figures interpreted by the author. The goal of the article is to show US economic policy towards Poland and an attempt to answer the question whether economic issues influenced political relations of the two countries.

The article presents mainly the little known form among the Polish researchers of general history, the issue of changes and processes of social-political nature in Guatemala arising during the period before ending the Second World War and the Civil War 1960. The author focused on discussion of the main aspects of internal and economic policy of that country, including the crucial role played by social tensions, political, social-economic changes, and also the coup. These factors had a determining role on the processes happening in the political sphere of Guatemala. The source basis of the article is information from the bulletin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Poland and the archives of the Foreign Department of the Polish United Workers’ Party, which are in the Archive of New Files. The article is of the contributory nature, therefore the research within the subject matter is an open issue.

The following article has a nature of a scientific essay and concerns the issues of „American exceptionalism” phenomenon still present in public debates. In spite of the fact that it has been permanently present in the US politics for many years and has its own premises resulting from the fist independence declarations and Constitution, it has the ups and downs. The fundamental aim of that essay is to answer the question – to what extent exceptionalism and American uniqueness connected with it is important in politics of that country and world politics. Do the phenomenon of terrorism and the attitude of the USA to human rights go hand in hand with the idea of issues raised in that text? The source basis for writing that article were the most important titles concerning the examined item and general conclusions of the Author after studying them.

The article deals with the matter of social-political relations between GDR and the People’s Republic of Poland within the period of building the Berlin Wall in 1961 from the point of view of the Polish press issued officially and unofficially which has been little studied so far. It shows huge differences in opinions and reliability of transferring press information between the official press and the one issued in the West. It involves mainly the relationship of Polish press towards the Berlin Wall and methods and directions of shaping the public opinion. Capturing the subject character of propaganda that was used in showing the relations between GDR and Federal Republic of Germany was also important. That is why analysing the chosen press titles issued within the mentioned period was also necessary for that reason, although it can be stated that defining those relations was not an easy task due to the poor sources (only several press articles).

The fundamental aim of the article is the review of the radicalism manifestation within the social resistance in Poland in the context of the Czechoslovak 1968 events, their range, forms and intensity. The legislative acts and structures eradicating that type of occurrence are described briefly. The Russian intervention in Czechoslovakia in summer 1968, and also the escalation of social resistance in Poland since the beginning of the year, increased the radicalisation of protests. The so-called „Poronin operation” or the act of self-immolation of Ryszard Siwiec during the harvest festival in 1968 were the well known sings of protest of that period. The article outlines the radical forms of resistance in Poland in 1968 and, at the same time, it is an attempt at a careful reconstruction of the discussed matter. It was written on the basis of the archive records (MSW PRL Ministry of Interior and Administration documentation from Warsaw Institute of National Remembrance), literature, press and other sources.

The article presents the subject of resistance of the sabotage nature which was not so much known in Poland. Apart from the information about the range of the sabotage phenomenon, the Polish legislation on repression matter for these types of acts and the structure being involved in combating that phenomenon has been discussed. The article is a monograph on the development of that interesting issue. Its chronological frames include the years 1944/1945–1956 and are in accordance with the widely accepted chronological division in the latest history. The year 1956 was a turning point in a policy of the Polish authorities. Assuming power by Gomułka, liberalization of social life, stopping the Stalinist tyranny and practices and reorganization of security services caused that the sabotage during these times was perceived in a lenient way. It was limited, although other forms of resistance were more intensive, for example anonymous letters, leaflets or strikes. The basis of the preliminary sources of that article are materials prepared by the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of the Interior, deposited in the Institute of National Remembrance Archive in Warsaw.

The article makes a contribution to the research over that subject matter, both paying attention to history and law. Undoubtedly, the discussed subject matter is one of the most emotional issues connected with history of the Polish People’s Republic. In spite of that there is no full monopraph showing the discussed phenomenon, in a form of a syntetic study. I would be worth taking up such an idea. Preliminary research included the collection of New File Archives in Warsaw, where one can find lots of information on the studied topic. It was supplemented with the press sources, which are the mine of knowledge within that subject, althoug the Author had to be careful and interpret the facts presented there properly. It concerns mainly the numerical data which did not correspond the real actual state at that time. The Propaganda done in party press was mainly aimed the artificial emphasizing of the achievements of the judiciary authorities in battle with malpractice and their successes, not really true. The above subject matter will be widely developed in future, by the majority of historians fascinated with the latest Polish times, both in micro and macro dimension.

The primary objective of the article is the discussion of the most important aspects, policy directions and the attitude of Norway towards the events in Czechoslovakia 1968. It is a very interesting matter because Norway was a country that reacted in the most negative way to these events. None of the researches have deeply analysed that problem so far, and the archival documentation is rich in lots of unknown facts. The text is of the exiguous mature and was written on the basis of the bulletins of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of Poland, and also the archived sources coming from the Department of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers Party. Due to the that data coming from these sources have not been published so far, the article has shed new light on the current knowledge status in the subject considered.

The text entitled Polish-Icelandic contacts after 1945 presents previously un-known closer relations between the two countries, ie Poland and Iceland after the World War II. In this paper the author tried to present a general relationship between the two countries, focusing on all major fields of cooperation, namely on diplomatic, political, economical and cultural relations. Turning points of the text are justified, because renewal of these contacts oc-curred after 1945, and the cooperation between mentioned countries exists vir-tually to the present day. Of course, they looked different then, and on other planes Poland cooperates with Iceland today. Although there were a few texts concerning the studied subject, but they fo-cus more on cultural contacts and Icelandic government’s politics on the em-ployment of Poles in this country. For example, the matter of political cooperation and the attitude of the Polish People’s Republic towards the Icelandic policy have not been widely discussed. The source collections concerning discussed subject acquired Archives of New Records in Warsaw, where we could find the Polish and English documents on Polish cooperation with Iceland in the period. On this basis the author was able to reproduce the conditions and character of these relations. Preliminary archival research was enriched with press sources, but despite their impressive numbers, the information contained in them are often duplicated by different authors. Undoubtedly topics discussed in this article can be a contribution to do more research in this area, to which the author warmly encourages everyone in-terested in the subject.

The article presents the subject matter of delegating the Polish political workers to the USA, within the period of the Polish People’s Republic, which has not been well known so far. It includes the general description of them and allows to familiarize with the mechanisms of these outposts functioning. Due to the that subject matter had not been developed wider in scientific periodicals, the article represents a contribution to the development of further research. There are not only the United States of America worth considering, but more than 80 countries where there were the outposts of the Polish Workers’ Party and the Polish United Workers’ Party. It appears from the text that activities of the Polish authorities were aimed at propagating the communist ideology, even in democratic countries. It was then one of the many elements of the policy imposing the conditions of the socialist state. The basis of the preliminary archival research of the article are the materials made by the Foreign Department of the Central Committee, kept in the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw. The library with rich and extensive collections of records allowed to reconstruct the acting mechanisms of the discussed outposts.
