This year (2011) marks the thirtieth anniversary of the promulgation of the postsynodal exhortation Familiaris consortio concerning marriage and family. This document, in spite of time and the ongoing social and moral changes in the world, keeps intact its topicality. Focusing marriage and family issues, it obviously refers to the principles of Christian anthropology and so its importance never expires. Reading the document carefully, one can find many suggestions about the upbringing of the young generation. This article, pointing out to parents’ tasks in the process of children’s upbringing, aims to help with this. To reach this goal, the author refers to the four tasks indicated by the pope as binding on every Catholic family. The synod fathers’ discussion, to which refers the Holy Father, had evoked such tasks. In a natural and an obvious manner they orientate the educational care of the parents. The tasks are the following: (1) creating a community of persons; (2) service to life; (3) participation in the development of the society; (4) participation in the life and the mission of the Church. The most important aspects of the Catholic education have been demonstrated on such a structure. To remind them seems to be fully justified and helpful, particularly while many leave the Church and question the morality stemming from the Gospel.

G. Bernanos is one of those few novelists who has raised – in a catholic faith perspective – an issue of fear. His last writing Dialogues of the Carmelites is a drama about fear experienced by a Christian in face of both life and death. H. Urs von Balthasar’s theological depiction of the question contained in his book The Christian and Anxiety helps us in an interpretation of Bernanos’ literary work. Combining these two texts: literary and theological we can notice again a confirmation of the fact, that the culture finds its fulfillment and inspiration in religion and religion finds its locus thelogicus in literature.

The task to realize constant human formation in the area of acquisition of cultural national identity is vitally important and at the same time not easy. The modern man is living under the influence of versatile, liberal-nihilistic tendencies. Creative engagement of people in the creation of a comprehensive, national culture finds its expression when the transcendent (religious) approach is not avoided. The encounter of two components, a human and a divine awakens and leads to a deep awareness, both religious and cultural. In order to obtain correct consciousness, one should particularly rely on the personalizing and socializing functions of the family. In this context, in the natural way one can educate children and adolescents to a conscious responsibility for the life in truth and freedom. A crucial factor in the development of this awareness is also the care about the quality of the mother tongue and as called by the Polish philosopher S. Świeżawski – „the exercise of intelligence”.
