Experience, knowledge of the history and life wisdom are the greatest advantages of being old. They are related to bringing up the younger generation, forming them and passing over the tradition. In this article an attempt was made to present the value of grandparents for shaping the patriotic attitude of their grandchildren. Patriotism, relations between generations in family, and the influence of tradition on raising the younger generation and tasks of older people related to them had also been described. The following article presents the results of research on this topic among students.

Współczesna starość, choć coraz bardziej powszechna, nie ma jednak łatwego życia. Zbyt wiele się od niej oczekuje, często ignoruje, nader rzadko się jej słucha. Funkcjonowanie ludzi starszych opisać można poprzez procesy wywłaszczania, wycofania, ale także bycia w pełni. Wiele zależy tutaj od ogólnych tendencji społecznych, jak również od indywidualnych działań samych seniorów. W artykule podjęto próbę wykazania, że starość jest warta poznania, godna przeżycia i stanowi prawdziwie dobre towarzystwo dla atrakcyjnej młodości, z którą zapewne mają sobie wiele do opowiedzenia.

The contemporary old age, even though more and more common, does not have an easy life. Too much is expected of it, too often it is ignored, very rarely listened to. The functioning of the elderly people can be described by the expropriation process, by withdrawal, but also by living life to the full. This is largely dependent on the general social trends, as well as the individual actions of the seniors themselves. The article attempts to show that the old age is worth knowing, worth living and is a truly good company for the attractive youth, with which they probably have a lot to discuss.

Problematyka aktywności społecznej wydaje się być szczególnie istotna wobec przyjęcia tezy, że o wartości społeczeństwa decyduje zainteresowanie i sprawność jego członków w zakresie wspomagania tych, którzy bez owego wsparcia nie są w stanie funkcjonować w pełni. Studenci pedagogiki to na tę chwilę w wielu wypadkach działacze nieprofesjonalni, później zaś już profesjonalnie działający pedagodzy. To, w jaki sposób postrzegają oni idę działalności społecznej oraz pracy użytecznej społecznie, pozwala rokować w kontekście ich sprawności i przydatności zawodowej. W opracowaniu przedstawione zostały wyniki badań przeprowadzonych wśród studentów kierunku pedagogicznego WSIiE TWP w Olsztynie i Kętrzynie. Głównym celem prezentowanego projektu było poznanie, w jaki sposób badani postrzegają ideę aktywności społecznej, jaki jest stopień ich zaangażowania w działania tego typu oraz jaką rolę w kształtowaniu postaw prospołecznych odgrywa uczelnia. Wyniki przeprowadzonego postępowania empirycznego wskazują, że badana grupa i jej aktywność odzwierciedlają tendencje panujące w polskim społeczeństwie. Aktywność społeczna jako konstrukt teoretyczny jest im dosyć dobrze znana, natomiast w wymiarze wykonawczym ogranicza się zazwyczaj do najbliższego otoczenia i działania nie wymagającego zbyt dużego wysiłku.

The issue of social involvement is a one crucial if we assume, that it is the concern and willingness of a society’s individual members to support gratuitously those, who without help from their fellowcitizens could hardly lead a decent life, that decide on the moral concepts prevailing in any given society. The majority of the investigated students’ sample group are trainee teachers who aspire to become professionals. This group’s attitude towards community work and involvement for the public weal can be considered a reliable indicator for their occupational aptitude and professional qualifications. In this paper authors present the result of an investigation carried out among students of pedagogics in Olsztyn and Kętrzyn. The principal aim of this project was to carry out a sounding of the respondents’ attitude towards the concept of social involvement, to which degree they contribute to voluntary work and which part our University plays in the buildingup of a prosocial attitude. As the results of the conducted survey clearly show, the target group and their activities provide a fairly decent picture of the tendencies prevailing in the Polish society as a whole. Social commitment and community work as theoretical constructs are wellknown, but in practice it is more often than not limited to the closest social environment and to services that do not involve too much personal effort.
