The aim of this article is to present ways of translating both subordinative and coordinative German compounds into Polish and Spanish. The translation analyses of compounds is based on three parallel sets of compounds selected from the German, Polish and Spanish versions of The Trial by Franz Kafka. In the first part of the article, the compounds from the sets are classified in view of semantic relations between constituents of the compounds. Then the ways of translating German compounds representing each compound type into Polish and Spanish are discussed.

The goal of this article is to investigate the correlations between medical subject headings in Polish and English and the results of library queries obtained by their application to the JU Medical Library search engine. The Polish and English subject headings are analyzed in terms of their semantic unambiguity and the textual frequency of corresponding medical terms is examined. Attention will be also paid to various translative equivalence types in terms of Polish neoclassical terms included in the complete database of medical subject headings compared to their counterparts in English. The entire analysis is preceded by a concise outline of the historical and theoretical bases of medical subject headings in the research on librarianship and terminology for the sake of investigating languages for specific purposes.

The aim of this article is to suggest a new classification of the Polish compound words with the initial constituents mało- and wielo-. The study is based on the corpus of such compound words extracted from the Universal Dictionary of Polish Language PWN edited by S. Dubisz. The criterion of classifying the analyzed compound words is a semantic accordance between the parathesis of the compound words and their Polish equivalents. Based on the criterion above the analyzed compound words have been divided into 3 groups.

The aim of this article is to provide a logical reconstruction of the general theory of compounding. The theory formulated here is partly based on the axiomatic approach to general morphology presented in Bańczerowski (1997) and it can be conceived of as its continuation.
