The article consists of two parts. The first examines the impact of the radio on mass communication as well as the way in which this invention was used in the 20th century by governments not only in Europe. The author briefly presents the functions and features thanks to which radio was seen as an attractive medium to disseminate ideas, information and propaganda. Radio used in the process of competing for power is the context in which the author discusses the Polish presidential campaign of 2010. The second part of the article is a case study, an analysis of three selected radio programmes in which politicians present themselves as presidential candidates and seek the votes of citizens.

The aim of this article is to present specificity of Polish posters, public notices, proclamations, leaflets and brochures that were printed in Lower Silesia in the years 1945–1948. All these materials refer to along tradition of printed ephemera and seem to be unique for scientists representing many fields. However, in this article peculiarity of these materials for linguists interested in political propaganda, newspeak, language of values is shown. There were three issues presented (composition, subject matter and stylistics) which are an introduction to very detailed research on language of Polish printed ephemera.

The article makes Polish obituaries from post-war period the centre of attention. Obituaries seem to be particularly important for researchers because of being a part of ephemera — items expected to have only short-term usefulness, that have never been analyzed by linguists. Thanks to Wroclaw University Library collection, it is possible to analyze the unique obituaries published in so-called Regained Territories in very post-war period. Firstly, there is an association with other popular funeral genre (published in press) discussed. Then, there are three aspects taken under consideration: structure of obituary (composition, symbols, typical phrases), language (stylistics, syntax, values), reference to political and social reality.
