Artykuł mówi o kulturze jako fenomenie występującym podczas tworzenia się społeczeństwa. Na tej podstawie zjawisko kultury jest analizowane jako cecha niezbędna do stwierdzenia jego istnienia. Rozróżnianie kultur na podstawie dominujących elementów – na duchową i zmysłową – daje nam wyobrażenie o fundamencie nowoczesnych kultur i pomaga tworzyć odpowiednie nastawienie do istniejących kultur. Integralna teoria Pitirima Sorokina, która uwzględnia wszystkie byty wpływające na człowieka, opiera się na jedności trzech źródeł ludzkiej wiedzy – zmysłu, rozumu i intuicji – i charakteryzuje kulturę jako zjawisko społeczne. Epistemologiczny potencjał koncepcji związku kultury i społeczeństwa według teorii P. Sorokina i jego główne założenia są aktualne również w naszych czasach.

The article deals with culture as a phenomenon that occurs only with the beginning of the formation of society. On this basis, the phenomenon of culture analyzes as an essential characteristic of being a society. We consider the epistemological potential of the concept of culture and society by Sorokin and outline its main provisions. Relevant in our time is the separation of cultures on the basis of the dominant element – the spiritual and sensual – it gives us an idea of the foundation of modern cultures and helps to form an adequate attitude to a diverse array of existing cultures. The meaning of Sorokin’s integral theory is revealed, which considers all entities that operate in the human being as a unity of three sources of human knowledge - the senses, reason and intuition, and this implies a culture as a social phenomenon.
