The mass media are not just simple devices but they play certain defined roles in contemporary society. Media disseminate various contents, they function as entertainment, stimulate better reception of the transferred contents, promote certain lifestyles, show distant cultures and peoples’ lives in various parts of the world. Not only do the mass media help to educate people but also to deepen their faith. It is done by evangelization and religious education. The former refers to teaching how to pray, participating in religious life with a greater involvement as well as bearing Christian testimony. With religious education taken into consideration, the mass media may perfectly explain the truths of faith or teachings of the Church. The two latest popes openly encourage to evangelize and educate: John Paul II and Benedict XVI. The current Pope focuses in his teachings on a greater and greater usage of the new media in pastoral work.
