Po uporaniu się z głębokim kryzysem okresu przejściowego i częściowym zreformowaniu handlu zagranicznego, Białoruś zaczęła zwiększać swój eksport na rynki zagraniczne. W latach 1996-2006 handel zagraniczny stał się najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijającą się formą współpracy gospodarczej, był ważnym instrumentem białoruskiej transformacji. Znacząca rola handlu zagranicznego w transformacji przejawiała się w tym, że wpływał on na wzrost gospodarczy, wielkość i strukturę dochodu narodowego, podniesienie efektywności gospodarowania, na bilans handlowy i płatniczy oraz przyczynił się do stopniowej modernizacji gospodarki.

After dealing with the profound crisis of the transition period and the partial reform of foreign trade, Belarus began to increase its exports to foreign markets. Between 1996-2006, foreign trade became the most rapidly growing form of economic cooperation and was an important instrument in the Belarusian transition. The significant role of foreign trade in transition manifested itself in the fact that it influenced the growth, size and structure of the national income, increasing the effectiveness of management, the balance of trade and payments and contributed to the gradual modernization of the economy.
