The article focuses on the new faces of the 21st century understanding of childhood, that is, more specifically, when a child becomes an investment of its parents. The moment the child starts receiving formal education all parental measures and efforts are aimed to create a successful individual. “High quality” children are representatives of modern childhood, which is not always an idyllic one. The aim of this article is to present how the perception of childhood has changed and what consequences this new perception arises for the contemporary child.

The aim of the article is to present selected conditions and consequences relating to the choice of a private primary school by middle-class parents. The article provides considerations on the importance of choosing a private primary school for the child’s further life. The second part of the text refers to the analysis of qualitative research related to the choice of a private school by middle-class parents. The interviews were conducted in 2015 with 24 parents using the offer of private schools. Analyzes of parents’ statements show that with the choice of a private school, students and their families are selected simultaneously in the social and educational environment. Choosing a private school is an investment in children’s social capital.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie wybranych uwarunkowań i konsekwencji odnoszących się do wyboru prywatnej szkoły podstawowej przez rodziców z klasy średniej. Artykuł zawiera rozważania nt. znaczenia wyboru prywatnej szkoły podstawowej dla dalszych losów życiowych dziecka. Druga część tekstu odnosi się do analizy badań jakościowych związanych z wyborem szkoły prywatnej przez rodziców z klasy średniej. Wywiady zostały przeprowadzone w 2015 roku z 24 rodzicami, korzystającymi z oferty szkół prywatnych. Analizy wypowiedzi rodziców wskazują, że wraz z wyborem prywatnej szkoły dokonuje się jednocześnie selekcja uczniów i ich rodzin w środowisku społeczno-edukacyjnym. Wybór prywatnej szkoły jest inwestycją w kapitał społeczny dzieci.
