The humanities development under the Soviet power was hindered by the triangle party– security services—monopolistic doctrine. Most works written in that period were ritualized monologues, and the school of demagogy was the main scientific achievement handed down to new generations. Marxism is, first of all, the theoretical substantiation of terror. The red terror in a form of totalitarian system was a very verification of the theory by practice all over the world. In the period of the Soviet totalitarianism the humanities stopped to be a dialogue, particularly a civic one. It turned into a part of propagandistic machine of the Communist party; scientists acted the part of the “fighters of ideological front”. The resistance to such circumstances is the main indication of a true intellectual biography. It became apparent mainly in various forms of criticism, and rarely – in heroic actions. The book by M. Popovich The Red Century is cited as an example of many years' labour of comprehension of reality, of being in dialogue with anti-world, and liberation from dogmata.

Shevchenko is presented as a poet-thinker who operates with the words of metaphysical sense: Word, Fate, Will, Good, Truth, etc. They reflect mythological notions of broad strata of Ukrainian people which live in their language and oral folk poetry. Simultaneously these words evidence for the poet’s own personal world-view search, which is extremely complicated, painful and audacious. The question is in God-seeking and seeking for religious liberty, being urgent for the present time as well. Shevchenko’s metaphysics is a prism through which the poet observes and analyses socio-political reality. The real world is recreated by the poet through art deformations, being the peculiarities of Shevchenko’s poetics, the poetics of carnival in particular.

The round-table sitting dedicated to the Russian-Ukrainian war took place on October 24, 2014. The question was, in particular, of its cultural and historical factors and peculiarities of the conflict of consciousnesses in the course of Ukraine-Russia opposition. The participants have analyzed the phenomenon of the hybrid war as anomia, outlined a rational system of ensuring national security. There have been represented the original interpretation of the war discourse and euphemisation of political leaders’ language as the reduction of truth. The myth of the “Russian world” was considered as the basis of mobilization strategies of the aggressor and cognitive structure of its strategic culture. The correlation between philosophic traditions and the method of fighting the war have been outlined.
