The text considers the issue of balanced development from ethical perspective. The subject matter of the article is the confrontation of the ethical dimension of balanced development with contemporary leading tendencies of moral reflection. Treating the carriers of such tendencies as perspective addressees of the concept of balanced development constitutes the prerequisite of consideration about its presence in contemporary times. Analysis of the prerequisites and ethical dimension of neoliberal, postmodern and antiglobal orientation in confrontation with an imperative of balanced development tends to indicate crucial reasons of failures in implementing of the concept.

The subject of the article is Peter Singer’s „ethics of globalization” presented in his book of year 2002 One World. The Ethics of Globalization – translated into Polish language in year 2006 – towards contemporary proposals of dealing with ethical problems of globalization. Singer’s reflection on global problems solutions, eg. climate changes, disparities of economic development, etc. brings many valuable observations on moral condition of the contemporary world. In terms of normative sphere, it appears to be profoundly less constructive. The concept of the global government as an ethical subject, which he develops at the end of his observations, does not take into account negative experiences of UN. In such aspect, it constitutes a step back towards alterglobalistic concepts, which did not create satisfying theories of a new social ethical subject, but put emphasis on a problem of forceless and seeming actions of contemporary political elites. Peter Singer seems to avoid noticing such problem.

The question of social justice is a very important element of global education. Social justice refers to the equity principle in relations between large social groups; it concerns social classes and groups, nations, and faith groups. It encompasses the past, the present and the future. Due to the fact that global education is not merely a description but also an evaluation proposition, it is a scientific discipline about social justice. It has always been so, because no programme of economic, political or ideological expansion could exist without axiology. The problem of global education today is not limited to creating a programme adequate to the needs; it should also include a revision of its current content.

Zagadnienie sprawiedliwości społecznej stanowi bardzo istotny element edukacji globalnej. Sprawiedliwość społeczna, dotycząca zasady równości w relacjach między wielkimi grupami społecznymi, dotyczy klas i warstw, narodów oraz grup wyznaniowych. Obejmuje ona zarówno przeszłość, teraźniejszość, jak i przyszłość. Ponieważ edukacja globalna nie jest jedynie opisem, ale również propozycją wartościowania, jest więc także nauką o sprawiedliwości społecznej. I zawsze nią była, gdyż żaden program ekspansji gospodarczej, politycznej czy ideowej nie mógł funkcjonować bez aksjologii. Problemem dzisiejszej edukacji globalnej jest nie tylko stworzenie adekwatnego do potrzeb, programu, lecz także rewizja dotychczasowych treści programowych.

We live in a time of civilization breakthrough. Human activity aimed at the submission of the natural environment resulted in its devastation with disastrous consequences. Scientific predictions published since October 2018 show the threat of a global climate catastrophe in the coming years as an inevitable scenario unless we counteract it effectively. Preventing the catastrophe is becoming one of the most pressing problems facing the world today. This article examines the ways contemporary philosophy is addressing this issue, arguing that in fact there is no specific philosophical reaction to the climate catastrophe and advancing an explanation of such a striking negligence.

Żyjemy w czasach cywilizacyjnego przełomu. Ludzka aktywność skierowana na podporządkowanie sobie środowiska naturalnego doprowadziła do jego dewastacji, niosącej katastrofalne skutki dla dalszego trwania ludzkości. Naukowe prognozy, publikowane od października 2018 roku, ukazują realne zagrożenie globalną katastrofą klimatyczną w najbliższych latach jako oczywisty scenariusz w przypadku niepodjęcia skutecznej próby przeciwdziałania zagrożeniu. Powstrzymanie katastrofy staje się coraz trudniejszym zadaniem dla społeczności ludzi obecnie żyjących. Artykuł koncentruje się na zagadnieniu reakcji na wspomniany kryzys w dyskursie filozoficznym. W świetle przeprowadzonej analizy wiele wskazuje na to, że w filozofii współczesnej zagrożenie globalną katastrofą nie wywołuje wyraźnej reakcji jej przedstawicieli. Przeprowadzona analiza zmierza do ukazania przyczyn tego stanu rzeczy.

The values related to sustainable development are rooted in fundamental threats which are connected with a human being. The imbalance of development of modern civilization entails a threat to the humanity. Concern for the environment which is not taking into account the aspirations and social strivings may become a source of conflicts and tensions that could destabilize the political situation. The article draws attention to the relationship of man with nature from an early age. The formation of values in relation to the surrounding nature and the nearest child’s environment may contribute to the sustainable development.

Wartości związane z rozwojem zrównoważonym (sustainable development) stanowią istotną kwestię, ponieważ są zakorzenione w zagrożeniach dotyczących człowieka, w najbardziej elementarnych kwestiach. Niezrównoważenie rozwoju współczesnej cywilizacji niesie za sobą zagrożenie dla całej ludzkości. Troska o środowisko nie uwzględniająca aspiracji i dążeń społecznych może stać się źródłem konfliktów i napięć mogących destabilizować sytuację polityczną. Artykuł zwraca uwagę na relacje człowieka z przyrodą od najmłodszych lat. Głównym problemem jest kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej przez postrzeganie przyrody jako podstawowej wartości dla człowieka. Kształtowanie wartości w odniesieniu do otaczającej przyrody i najbliższego środowisku dziecka może przyczynić się do zrównoważonego rozwoju. Z przeglądu badań wynika, że przyroda w świadomości internautów nie jest utożsamiana z wartością dla człowieka.
