The article takes up the question of the influence of the current culture-civilization transformations on the functioning of local communities. The essence of the current transformations - most frequently defined as globalization - is outlined. The transformations are recognized as an integral element of the long-lasting historical process, and the special importance of the present transformations arises from the fact that in their complexity they occur in the history of mankind for the third time. The essence of the complexity is that they occur simultaneously in the culture, engineering and technological, social, political and economic spheres. In the article, the attributes of the transformations are presented and their impact on the functioning of local communities both in the context of threats and opportunities.

Artykuł ten podejmuje kwestię oddziaływania współczesnych przemian kulturowo-cywilizacyjnych na funkcjonowanie społeczności lokalnych. Przedstawiono w zarysie istotę współczesnych zmian określanych najczęściej mianem globalizacji. Przeobrażenia te uznano za integralny element długotrwałego procesu historycznego, a szczególne znaczenie obecnych przemian wynika z faktu, że w swojej kompleksowości zachodzą one po raz trzeci w dziejach ludzkości. Istotą tej kompleksowości jest fakt, że zachodzą one równocześnie w sferach: kulturowej, techniczno-technologicznej, społecznej, politycznej i gospodarczej. W artykule przedstawiono atrybuty przemian oraz ich wpływ na funkcjonowanie społeczności lokalnych zarówno w kontekście zagrożeń, jak i szans.
