Socio-cultural changes (in families, society and culture) are frequently negatively reflected in the minds and actions of young people influenced by the media as part of the globalization of society. We often remark upon the growth in aggressiveness, violence and intolerance among young people both in school and outside school. We often consider these to be the symptoms of the moral crisis in our society.

This paper is focused on terminological issues concerning the ethics of teaching. In connection with the profession of teachers we find weaknesses or even absence of theoretical modelling of professional ethics within philosophy and ethics at all (not only in Slovakia and Czech Republic); moreover, similar situation exists in pedagogy. Therefore we stress the importance of “visualising”the ethics of teaching in the context of Czech and Slovak education. The ethics of teaching becomes an important topic in Slovakia and Czech Republic. There is a growing need for theoretical modelling of ethics of teaching as well as for the ethics code of teaching in Slovakia. In my paper the opinions concerning the notions and contents of ethics of teaching are analysed; I will also discuss different attitudes to the 12 Studie – Pedagogická orientace č. 2, 2007 ethics of teaching. New definition of the ethics of teaching will be formed. Because the dynamic development of the society brings many ethical and moral problems in education (including teaching profession) the importance of including the topics of the ethics of teaching in pre-service teacher training is emphasised.

The article deals with the application of the basic principles and values of the ethics of social consequences, as the form of nonutilitarian consequentialism, within the ethics of teaching. It concentrates especially on the principles and values of humanity and human dignity. The basic form of humanity consists in the protection and support of one’s own life and the lives of friends, relatives and close people. The higher form of humanity is the protection and support of other and unknown people and that is surplus value (additional value). There are two aspects of the human dignity in the ethics of social consequences. The first of them is linked with the value of life which is earned by regard and respect, the second aspect concerns the fact that human dignity is the function of positive social consequences which follows from our behaviour and actions and they should prevail over the negative social consequences. The author reflects on the application of this concept, its principles and values as the methodological basis of the ethics of teaching.

The power of technical education lies in the teacher's ability to stimulate the learning environment which then provides students with a  concrete reason to take an interest in their community and in larger social issues.Science and technology education which upholds the ideal of preparing students to be active participants within a civil society inevitably must equip the students to think critically about the norms and notions of what is nice, normal and natural. Human development and the role of value in technical education is dependent upon education policy. Smany times during recent decades. A%er 1989, our society has seen a lot igni$cant changes in the conception of Slovak education have emerged of major changes in many spheres of social life, including education. &ese changes are partly associated with the new tasks imposed on the school by society and with the specialization within schools. &e importance of the science and language teacher's personality and values and his impact as a $gure of identi$cation for the students was once more heavily emphasized. &e language teacher is responsible for the students' moral development as well as for their social and intellectual development. Important changes in the society, of which the school is a part, have necessitated a rethinking of the school's moral responsibilities. &e growing number of children living in unstable family situations without su(cient contact with parents has created a growing need among students for caring and close social relations. Children need close social relations with adults who can help them in their work and learning. &e special attention is being paid to the concepts such as authority, freedom, responsibility, integrity, etc. At the present stage of society's development, we are facing an apparent changes in the value orientation, potentially having an impact on all spheres of life.

The term blended learning can be applied to a very broad range of language teaching and learning situations. The paper deals with practising information technologies in foreign language learning and teaching. The author states that traditional forms of foreign language teaching at present are not very attractive for university students. It can be commonly applied to a foreign language course where all the students meet with the teacher in a face-to-face class, but in which the language course includes a parallel self-study components.
