It is outlined the third phase of the development of the journal Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU (Proceedings of the PAU Commission on the History of Science). In June 2016 Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU 2015, vol. XIV was issued. Following the legal decision with effect from 4 July 2016 the journal, while maintaining the continuity of its publication, has been renamed to Studia Historiae Scientiarum. Since June 2016 the journal has a new website with an editorial panel on the Scientific Journals Portal. At the same time it still uses the existing website on the PAU Portal. In November 2016 Studia Historiae Scientiarum 2016, vol. 15 was issued.

Na mocy decyzji prawnej z dniem 4 lipca 2016 r. czasopismo – przy zachowaniu ciągłości wydawniczej – zmieniło nazwę na Studia Historiae Scientiarum. Od czerwca 2016 r. czasopismo ma nową stronę internetową z panelem redakcyjnym w Portalu Czasopism Naukowych. Zachowano jednocześnie dotychczasową stronę internetową w Portalu PAU. The article discusses the criteria and procedure for the parametric evaluation of scientific journals according to the Bill of 6 June 2016 of the “Directive of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Republic of Poland, dated .................... 2016 concerning the process of granting academic categories to scientific institutions”. Autor udziela odpowiedzi na list Pana dr. Pawła E. Tomaszewskiego, będącego kolejnym (trzecim) etapem polemiki na temat faktów z życia Jana Czochralskiego i różnic w sposobie ich przedstawiania przez amatora i profesjonalnego historyka. Źródłem kontrowersji jest biografia pt. Powrót. Rzecz o Janie Czochralskim (2012), edycja angielska: Jan Czochralski restored (2013). Zdaniem Autora, profesjonalny historyk nauki może mieć pewne zastrzeżenia wobec czasami zbyt popularnego stylu publikacji dr. Tomaszewskiego. Nie ulega jedna żadnej wątpliwości, że jak dotąd to właśnie ten Amator [tj. miłośnik, entuzjasta] badań historycznych dokonał znacznie więcej na polu badań biografii i dokonań Jana Czochralskiego niż profesjonalni historycy i historycy nauki. Odpowiedź ta kończy polemikę.

The author replies to the letter of Dr. Paweł E. Tomaszewski, which is a subsequent (third) stage of the controversy regarding the facts of life of Jan Czochralski and the differences in the way they are presented by an amateur researcher and a professional historian. The source of the controversy is the biography Powrót. Rzecz o Janie Czochralskim (2012), the English edition: Jan Czochralski restored (2013). In the opinion of the author, a professional historian of science may have some reservations regarding the sometimes too popular a style of the publications of Dr. Tomaszewski. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that so far this amateur [i.e. enthusiast] of historical research has done much more regarding the biography and achievements of Jan Czochralski than professional historians and historians of science. This reply concludes the exchange of polemics.

The Science of Science (Naukoznawstwo) in Poland: The Changing Theoretical Perspectives and Political Contexts – A Historical Sketch from the 1910s to 1993

The article sketches the history of naukoznawstwo (literally meaning the science connoisseurship or the science of science or science studies) in Poland from the 1910s to the end of the Cold War (1991), and the recovery of full political independence in 1993. It outlines the changing research perspectives of this interdisciplinary field of knowledge in Poland against a background of changing political conditions caused by the reconfigurations of the political order. The first part of the article concerns the period from the 1910s, when Poland was occupied by Russia, Prussia, and Austria, through the regaining of independence by Poland in 1918, the reconstruction of the state in 1918–1939; the second part – World War II; the third part – the period from the initial period of Soviet dominance (1944–1954) in Poland and simultaneously the beginnings of the Cold War (1947–1954), the period 1955–1956 (when the Polish state was liberated from Sovietization), through the different political crises in October 1956, March 1968, December 1970, and June 1976, to the emergence of the Independent Self–governing Trade Union Solidarity in September 1980, the end of the Cold War (1991), and the recovery of full political independence in 1993. The article outlines the fundamental achievements of prominent Polish scholars (among others K. Twardowski, M. Ossowska, S. Ossowski, T. Kotarbiński, K. Ajdukiewicz, S. Michalski, F. Znaniecki, B. Suchodolski, L. Fleck, M. Choynowski, Z. Modzelewski, S. Amsterdamski), politicians (among others B. Bierut, E. Krasowska), politicians and scholars (H. Jabłoński, S. Kulczyński), as well as committees (among others the Academic Section of the Józef Mianowski Fund, The Science of Science Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences), schools of thought (among others the Lvov–Warsaw School of Philosophy), and academic units (among others the Science of Science Seminar in Kraków, the Department for the History of Science and Technology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and The Department of Praxeology and Science of Science at the Institute for the Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences).

Article dedicated to the memory of Polish Prussia indigenous peoples in the XIX–XX c., Including activists of the Union of Poles in Germany and Their Families (paradoxically it is connected in non-random way of searching for the grave of Copernicus). This article presents a synthetic assessment of the alleged discovery of the tomb of Nicolaus Copernicus. Using, among others, a pair of terms “context of discovery” and “context of justification” (Reichenbach 1938), considered whether this discovery is the fact that only media, or the scientific fact. We analyzed the arguments used by the authors of this discovery. Dealt with, among others, interdisciplinary research methodology, historical evidence, the history of portraits of Nicolaus Copernicus, the arguments in the field of DNA analysis and the question of reception of this discovery in the media and academic circles. Based on multivariate analysis concluded that these findings are undoubtedly the fact the media; So far, however, the argument for the discovery of this tomb is in many key points inconsistent, questionable or erroneous, which makes scientific sense that it is still an open question whether he actually discovered the tomb of Nicolaus Copernicus. Therefore postulated to continue these studies in a more methodical manner
