The topics of the next Contact Committee’s meeting and opportunities for strengthening the effectiveness of its activities were the main issues discussed by Liaison Officers of the European Union SAIs, who gathered in April in Copenhagen. They also discussed the resolution of the European Parliament on the future role of the European Court of Auditors, issues related to the European public sector accounting standards, as well as improvements in the information flow as for EU-related audits.

In October 2014, in Luxemburg, Heads of twenty-eight Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the European Union and the European Court of Auditors (ECA) met to discuss the most important issues related to public audit and economy management in the EU, and to agree on joint activities in certain areas. The most important issue discussed at this year’s meeting were opportunities to improve cooperation between national Supreme Audit Institutions and the European Court of Auditors.

This year’s meeting of the Contact Committee was held on 18-19 June in Riga. The Heads of 27 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the EU and the European Court of Auditors debated on the new initiative of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank, i.e. the European Fund for Strategic Investments.

The liaison officers of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union, the Candidate Countries and the Potential Candidate Countries met in the capital of Slovenia in order to discuss the issues related to EU funds auditing. Among the topics discussed, there were also issues related to the organisation and management of the Contact Committee, including the new method of informing about preliminary findings of audits of the European Court of Auditors, and the role of SAIs in this respect.

The main item of the visit of the NIK President to Luxembourg was a meeting with President of the European Court of Auditors Vítor da Silva Caldeira. The heads of the two institutions discussed possibilities to extend cooperation between NIK and the European Court of Auditors (ECA). President Kwiatkowski had also a meeting with Polish people employed at the ECA and with representatives of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Every year, the European Court of Auditors publishes its work programme that comprises a list of special reports to be adopted in the given year. In her article, the author presents a list of reports planned for adoption in the year 2015.
