The aim of this study is to present and assess the methods of public management in local government units. For this purpose, the author used the dogmatic-legal method and analyzed the literature. The sources supporting the budget and its expenses have been indicated. This article describes two basic methods which are the budget and the long-term financial forecast and presents the basic assumptions of these methods.

Istotą niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie i ocena metod zarządzania finansami w jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego. W tym celu posłużono się metodą dogmatyczno-prawną oraz przeanalizowano wiele pozycji z bogatej literatury przedmiotu. Wskazano zarówno źródła zasilające budżet, jak i wydatki. W niniejszym artykule zostały opisane dwie podstawowe metody − budżet oraz wieloletnia prognoza finansowa, przedstawiono również zasadnicze założenia tych metod.
