The study is a reaction against the subjectivism of modern ethical thinking. The author presents the ethical position of C. S. Lewis in comparison with the ITC document (2008) and reveals interesting connections between both concepts. The Natural Law is not merely a subjective matter. C. S. Lewis speaks about deep connections between the concept of the Natural Law and the Christian image of God.

Hus, klerikalismus a katolictví: kontroverze z r. 1946

The article introduces a controversy in which Czech Catholics disputed concerning the right approach towards Jan Hus (1370/72–1415) and, by extension, towards those who were inspired by him in their religious, ethical, national, social or political attitudes. The paper studies the process of the dispute, in which the main protagonists were Alexander Heidler (1916–1980) and Adolf Kajpr SJ (1902–1959), who published in the periodical Katolík and Timotheus Vodička (1910–1967) and Silvestr M. Braito OP (1898–1962), who published in the review Na hlubinu. The article consequently focuses on the subject matter of the controversy on two levels: the historico-legal and psycho-pastoral. The conclusion of the study demonstrates that there is a connection between Heidler’s participation in the controversy of 1946 and the way in which Card. Josef Beran (1888–1969) presented Hus in his famous speech on religious freedom, which he delivered in 1965 during the talks of the Second Vatican Council.

The study provides insight into the attitudes of Czech Christians towards Marxism in the period of the so-called pre-totalitarian regime over the years 1945 to 1948. It introduces two of the most significant forms of ideological discussions between Czech Christians and Marxism and Communism of those times which are represented by the Catholic Josef Zvěřina and the Protestant Josef Lukl Hromádka. It demonstrates that both of these authors were open to the project of social equity, collective collaboration and more equitable distribution of capital. They were of the opinion that everything which was right in Communism was merely a development of that what was typical for Christianity and what could only find its proper place and crowning within integral Christianity. They rejected atheism. Zvěřina believed that ideological and practical atheism was such a key aspect of Marxism that it led towards such a different conception of human society which was impossible to coexist with Communism. Hromádka, in contrast, operated with the idea of non-atheistic Communism and from this derived the possibility that peaceful collaboration between communists and Christians could lead towards its surmounting.
