The article serves as an introduction to a major research project. It contains basic information about a research – designing team implementing the systems described in this volume, and describes Lodz Housing Construction Company "West", for which the systems have been designed. The biggest part of the article in accordance with its title has been devoted to a detailed presentation of methods of analyzing needs of the Company in the field of computerization. This analyzing needs was a starting point for the further research-designing work.

The article contains a proposition of expanding computerization of materials management in Housing Construction Company using packages of STOCK CONTROL programmes. The proposition is based on utilization of TRANFL transaction set built with the help of this package. It includes a detailed description of computerized execution of the following functions connected with materials management: - accounting of materials costs, - execution of orders (records and control), - statistics of warehouse turn over.

Realization of planning and financial settlements functions in an enterprise producing goods with s complex but relatively stable structure involves a necessity of performing a big number of computations, which exceed possibilities of a traditional system. In order to solve this problem in Lodz Construction Company "West", there has been designed and introduced a system utilizing a standard package ICL - BILL OF MATERIALS PROCESSOR. The article contains: - diagnosis of difficulties and requirements of the above mentioned company in the field of implementing planning and settlements functions, - basic ideas of a structural technological data base, - concept of the product structure network in the company, - short description of BOMP package, - description of authors’ subsystems utilizing structural data files of BOKP data base carried out in the above company.

The artlcle discusses problems connected with optimization of multi-objective systems. The author analyzes formetion of economic activliy objectives in partlcular economic formations and some problems connected with determinatlon of hierarchical structure of objectlves. There were defined relationships between type of objectives end mathematical programming and formuleted the vector optimization problem.

The first part of the artlcle deals with main concepts connocted with the data bank, and more precisely with its two elements i.o, data base and data base management system. In the second and main part of the article, the author presents her comments on propositions concrning designing of the data bank as described in the literature of th subject. and presents her own approach to the problem. Th entire designing process is divided into two stages: information designing and technological designing. Information designing aims at construction of the data base model. Which can be done according to two methods deseribed in the article: modelling and selecting.

The article discuses certain selectad problems connected with methodology of designing computer simulatlon systems. There were shown one of concapts concerning documantation of stages in conatruction of a Computer simulation model in comparison with methodology of designing electronic data processing system at the level of en industrial enterprise. The author descussed the way of creating a conceptual model for the mass service system, network of operations of a model simulating behaviour of this system, and the problem of generating input data in conditions of appearance of randomness of phenomena. Finally. attention ia focussed on the way of using Computer simulation systems.

Information constitutes a basis for any stock cantrol system. For such a systofii to be effective, the enterprise management must have an easy accass to information concerning all aspects of keeping stockes. Processing of information necessary for effective stock control by means of traditional calculation techniques is a difficult task mainly bacause it is time consuming, which causes that information loses one of its basic characteristics - its up-to-date value as wall as labour intensive due to a big number of documents connected with materials turnover. For these reasons, it becomes necessary to apply electronic computation techniques.
