This paper is devoted to a selection of issues concerning the phonetics of the 17thcentury Kievan variety of Polish, analyzed in the context of the 17thcentury standard Polish and its other regional varieties. Polish translations of the letters written by the Patriarch of Constantinople Parthenius I to the Kievan Metropolitan Piotr Mohyla were used as research material. The vocalic analysis covers the following aspects: the raised vowels, the reduction of oN into uN, the alternation between każdy and kożdy, as well as the nasal vowel articulation. The paper also discusses the following consonantal features: the distortion in the palatalization of consonants, the phonetic realization of -ou-, -au- in borrowings, the presence of the palatalized ch’ – and the problematic spelling of l – ł. No significant phonetic contrasts have been detected between Listy... [‘Letters...’] and other texts written in the Kievan variety of Polish. This allows a conclusion that the phonetics of the translated letters is representative of the Kievan Polish of the 1640s. This variety, on the other hand, exhibits the influence of the standard Polish as well as of Russian,

The article discusses the constructions of the type accusativus cum infinitivo in 12 Polish writings from Kiev from the years 1633-1691 and constitutes an attempt at placing the Polish language of those writings on the linguistic map of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In source texts there dominates the so-called a.c.i. proper being a continuation of its Latin original whose structure was: verbum dicendi/sentiendi/declarandi + infinitivus + direct complement. In this group of examples special attention shall be paid to relatively numerous notations with a different infinitive than być (“be”). The so-called Polish a.c.i., which incorporates the infinitive być in the structure of nominal predicate, has fewer occurrences in the studied material, which is surprising in the light of data from Polish lands in the 17th century. Juxtaposition of the results of study with chronologically corresponding data from the northern territories of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth demonstrates different linguistic tendencies and becomes another reason for posing the question about the status of the Polish language of the Kievan printed material.

This paper presents a linguistic analysis of sepulchral inscriptions in a number of Orthodox cemeteries in the district of Tomaszów Lubelski. The inscriptions under analysis date back to mid-19th and early 20th century – in the region there are no Orthodox graves from an earlier period. The linguistic analysis of the inscriptions is preceded by a brief survey of the history of the region. A detailed analysis of the inscriptions helped establish their main components: name, surname and the date of death. Additionally, the inscriptions include initial and concluding forms that make the obligatory element precise. Two tendencies occur in the inscriptions’ orthography. On the one hand, Church Slavonic influences are evident; on the other, Ruthenian elements are inserted. A similar variation is observable on the lexical level: Ukrainian (the territory of the former Austrian Partition) or Russian (the territory of the former Russian Partition – Congress Kingdom of Poland) forms are employed.

W zdecydowanej większości badane napisy pochodzą z drugiej połowy XIX i początku XX wieku. Przejawia się ona stosowaniem form ukraińskich (obszar dawnego zaboru austriackiego – Galicja Wschodnia) bądź rosyjskich (tereny należące do byłego zaboru rosyjskiego – Królestwo Polskie).
