Adam Stanisław Naruszewicz was the first poetical authority in Polish Enlightenment. Contemporary court eulogists saw him as a personification of the greatest ancient masters of word till the end of 1770-ties and they called him “Polish Wergili” or “Polish Horacy” . He fullfilled, widely developed, enlightening didactic programme, he guarded the moral and social order as well as introduced, gradually though systematically, the democratic opinions to peoples’ consciousness. His poetry fullfilled the eighteenth-century reader’s needs, it was a kind of moral support for them. History however, treated this privileged poet with cruelty with time Naruszewicz was found among the most often criticized poets, and finally among those almost forgotten. This article enrolls in new critical reading trend of Adam Naruszewicz lyrical output, however, it is beyond all doubts, that his poetry needs to be re-read, which means among other things, that we should devote more attention to their widely presented reflective motives and plots in poet’s works, for years neglected by literature “explorers” of Enlightenment, who have always been referring to political and civil issues. The present draft presents some motives and subjects of some reflective and philosophical odes and also philosophical and moral ones. It also touches the fundamental set of moral values, indicated by the poet-Jesuit, to which belong: the peaceful thought and anti-war polemics, which was to become the key to regaining the moral order and evoking the new spirit of happy society.
