The text is a detailed discussion on a two-volume publication “Reprezentacje Zagłady w kulturze polskiej (1939–2019)” (“Representations of the Holocaust in the Polish Literature <1939–2019>,” 2021) composed of scholarly essays about Jewish extermination in the movie, theatre, arts, and popular culture. The reviewer reconstructs the methodological foundations of the book’s chapters, describes the type of academic narration employed by the essays, and also formulates critical remarks to the conception of the book as a whole that was adopted by the editors.

Artykuł jest próbą interpretacji „Pornografii” Witolda Gombrowicza, wykorzystującej instrumentarium metodologiczne ekokrytyki, a konkretnie, filozofii postnaturalnej, reprezentowanej przez Vicky Kirby, Timothy’ego Mortona, a także przedstawicieli ekodekonstrukcjonizmu, odwołujących się do późnych pism Jacques’a Derridy. Interpretacja koncentruje się wokół funkcji, jakie pełni natura w świecie przedstawionym powieści: od przestrzeni eskapistycznej czasów wojennych, poprzez obszar realizacji energii libidalnej, po element animalistycznego, pleniącego się pisma (Natura jako bohaterka listu Fryderyka).

The article is an attempt at interpreting Witold Gombrowicz’s “Pornografia”, which resorts to ecocriticism as a methodological instrument and, more specifically, postnatural philosophy represented by Vicky Kirby, Timothy Morton, and the representatives of eco-deconstruction who referred to Jacques Derrida’s late writings. The interpretation focuses on the function which is performed by nature in the world presented in the novel—from the escapist space of wartime through the place of realising libidal energy, and ending in an animalistic element of proliferating writing (Nature as a protagonist of Fryderyk’s letter).

Recenzja jest omówieniem dwóch publikacji naukowych: „Literatura polska wobec Zagłady (1939–1968)” pod redakcją Sławomira Buryły, Doroty Krawczyńskiej i Jacka Leociaka oraz Bartłomieja Krupy „Opowiedzieć Zagładę. Polska proza i historiografia wobec Holocaustu (1987–2003)”. Obydwie książki są obszernymi, bogatymi materiałowo monografiami piśmiennictwa poświęconego zagładzie Żydów. Recenzentka dokonuje rekapitulacji problematyki obydwu książek, ale również wchodzi w spór z niektórymi tezami, które zostały w nich sformułowane.

The review discusses two academic publications, namely “Literatura polska wobec Zagłady (1939–1968) (Polish Literature against Holocaust <1939–1968>)” edited by Sławomir Buryła, Dorota Krawczyńska and Jacek Leociak, and Bartłomiej Krupa’s “Opowiedzieć Zagładę. Polska proza i historiografia wobec Holocaustu (1987–2003) (Relating Holocaust. Polish Prose and Historiography against the Holocaust <1987–2003>).” Both books are comprehensive monographs on writing about Jews extermination, richly illustrated with source materials. The reviewer offers a recapitulation of the problems contained in the two books and also enters into polemics with some theses expressed in them.
