The study focuses on the financial management of Prague Electric Enterprises and their public transportation section in the period from 1918 to 1939. At the beginning of this period, the distribution of electric energy and tram transportation were faced with acute problems and debts from the period of First World War. It took some time, a lot of reconstruction and modernization, but in the first half of the 1920s this goal was definitely achieved. In 1918, Prague became the capital city of Czechoslovakia and the city was significantly enlarged. A lot of new quarters had to be included into the system of electric energy distribution and the city public transport. Many new tram rails had to be installed. In 1925, the bus transport had to be established. In 1936, Prague also saw a new means of transportation, the trolleybus. Despite all this, the financial balance of the Electric Enterprises remained to be moderately profitable in both the electric and the transportation section throughout the discussed era. This was not overturned by any of the temporary problems or by the crisis of national economy. The enterprises were managed by team of high-skilled managers and made a lot of profit to the city of Prague, which was the owner of this organization.
