The article depicts transhumanism as an alternative form of religious upbringing which entirely rejects the Christian concept of humanity through favoring a non-transcendent, transgressive notion of human existence. First, I will try to present transcendence and transgression as two diametrically opposed worldviews. Further, I will elaborate various transhumanistic approaches to spirituality and religion. Finally, I will demonstrate the transgressive impact of transhumanism with reference to the philosophy of Georges Bataille. Generally, this paper will argue that transhumanism aims at realizing the idea of a sovereign, amoral and atheistic individual, whose spirituality is based on the concept of overcoming the anthropological limitations of humanity. From a pedagogical point of view transhumanism proclaims an existential attitude that fundamentally disclaims the ontological difference between sacrum and profanum.

Następnie omówię różne transhumanistyczne podejścia do duchowości i religii.
The aim of the article is to advocate the conception of postmodernity as the actual expression of authentic and deep social changes. The main feature of these changes is the decentralization of culture. Postmodernity leads to the cultural condition in which metaphysical ideas lose their authority to order human life on the basis of universally binding norms and values. What in modernity could have been perceived as a violation of the basic principles of socialization, nowadays constitutes merely a “game” of signs and meanings. As a result, the principles of socialization and social relations also change their form: new ways of approaching both the individual and the collective have evolved. These structural changes of social relationships will be presented in the last part of the article with reference to Rainer Funk’s conceptualizations of the postmodern “I” and the postmodern “We”.

The aim of the present article is an interpretation of the works of Marquise de Sade from a philosophical and sociological point of view. The text also poses a polemic with the interpretations of Sade’s work, which are generally acclaimed in Poland. Introducing the Marquis as a proto-postmodernist, I will try to indicate that the he effectively managed to express the authentic tendencies of the contemporary Western culture. Trying to face the final consequences of the departure from the Christian traditions and principles of social integration, Sade believed that the departure from metaphysical ideas should limit the human life to its sensual dimension. Likewise, the contemporary expansion of pornography and the mass culture based on erotic content builds a virtual world of lust and a persisting game of human sensuality. The philosophical foundation of this development constitutes the work of de Sade. In conclusion, the contemporary postmodern Western culture creates a social reality in which human intentionally allows her/his senses to dominate ideas – and not vice versa.

Celem artykułu jest interpretacja twórczości Markiza de Sade’a z punktu widzenia filozofii i socjologii. Tekst stanowi też polemikę z powszechnie uznanymi w Polsce interpretacjami twórczości Sade’a.

The aim of the present article is an analysis and interpretation of the relation between the “death of God”, proclaimed by Frederic Nietzsche, and the prerequisites of sociation in the postmodern era. I will try to show that the “death of God” does not only refer to the religious dimension but also expresses the contemporary condition of the western culture. Nowadays the western culture is a decentralized culture that does not relate the human life to any metaphysical notions or ideals. This leads into the destruction of social integration which I will analyze after Georg Simmel in three dimensions: the destruction of the image of man, individual self-realization and the harmony between the individual and the social entirety. I will try to prove that postmodernity constitutes an era of a simulation of the society and a battlefield of multifarious forms of life, values, customs and conceptions of truth, which cannot be pacified.
The aim of the present article is to reveal the essential connection of MichelFoucault’s critical attitude regarding social relationships with the formation of thepostmodern ethos of making out of the human life an artwork. It will be shown thatthe main object of Foucault’s critique are the relations of power and knowledge inthe Christian priesthood and their modern transformation in nonreligious institutions. From this point of view, mainly based on the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, the Christian ethics occur to be an accumulation of techniques of disciplinizationand normalization. This attitude towards Christianity and modernity leads to thepostmodern ethos of making out of life an artwork. This notion is mainly based onthe antique Greek and Roman philosophy, where instead of obeying to universalethical principles the human being struggled to be his own master. Therefore thepostmodern existence tries to be beyond all traditional boundaries, which resultsin the danger of neglecting the historical fact, that Christianity was and still is animportant institution of the Western Civilization.
In the present article I will argue that the program of sustainable development, as promoted by the United Nations, demands a revision of the foregoing patterns of educational reflection. For this purpose I will present the posthuman thought as an alternative to the conception and plea for humanistic education, which hitherto has failed to realize the invested hopes. The key premise of posthumanism is the promotion of postanthropocentrism, which extends the horizons of consciousness and concerns regarding non-human beings. Towards the end of the article I will try to indicate that the biggest opponent of this thought is – paradoxically – the most extreme fraction of posthumanism, which is transhumanism. I will argue that instead of revising the humanistic fixations on effectiveness and efficiency, transhumanism seems to head towards an increase of human domination over nature, which fundamentally contradicts the key ideas of the sustainability program.

The article is a reply to A. Rogalska-Marasińska’s polemical text entitled Human – Posthuman – Transhuman: Who Will Undertake the Education for Sustainable Development?. I will try to show that despite some ideological deviations posthumanism poses contemporarily the only alternative to transhumanism which I define as an ideational inheritor of modern humanism. Thus, humanism cannot secure us from the existential risks of transhumanism. I will argue that, first and foremost, it is humanistic anthropocentrism that poses not only the greatest danger for the natural environment in general, but specifically for the human species, whose agency can be, in accordance to the logics of (trans)humanism, taken over by digital algorithms. The relational anthropology of posthumanism, on the other hand, could reinstate the transcendental image of man and education, which resist the reductionist tendency of transhumanism. At the end I willdedicate a few comments to the possibilities of integrating posthumanism into the educational system through an institutional reactivation of philosophical education.

In his article Nihilist tendencies in general pedagogy W. Kruszelnicki (2018) argues that general pedagogy sank into a postmodern crisis of values which results in its inability to formulate theoretically groundedaims of education. As a remedy for this tendency W. Kruszelnicki presents F. Nietzsche’s philosophy, who sethought, as Kruszelnicki is convinced, was wrongly associated with the intellectual fundament of postmodernrelativism and skepticism. In this article I would like to refer to these polemics and complement them withsome of my own thoughts regarding the crisis of the theory of education. Here, a significant reference pointwill be Nietzsche’s concept of the “overhuman”, which W. Kruszelnicki omits in his critique of nihilism. I will finish my reflections with the following hypothesis: according to F. Nietzsche’s posthumanist thoughtthe biggest challenge for the contemporary humanities is not nihilism itself, but the progressing technocratictendencies in terms of formulating and enforcing educational aims within our educational institutions

Pier Paolo Pasolini’s work has always attracted controversy and divided the audience into die-hard supporters and those who categorically rejected his works. Lipowicz attempts to analyse and interpret Pasolini’s last film Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma /1975/) from the philosophical and sociological point of view. He argues that Salò is an inconvenient and therefore proscribed masterpiece of cinema, and that it shows the transition of the Western culture from modernity to post-modernity in a critical and pessimistic manner. From the contemporary perspective this film is an important reminder that we should not forget that under the guise of social diversity, we, supposedly free citizens, are forced to live in and participate in consumer culture, which not only imposes on us its ideas, norms, values and customs, but also interferes with even the most intimate areas of our lives.

The question of direct presentation of violence in films has long been controversial in the scientific world, and it is also of interest to the public. Since the 1960s the subgenre of gore is increasingly present in the mainstream cinematography, and the popular cinema is increasingly willing to adapt the aesthetic of violence typical for films belonging to this genre. Direct presentation of the destruction of human body has become part of contemporary popular culture. It is therefore an issue that should be considered from the sociological perspective. Accepting this as his starting point, the author asks in the article about the impact of virtual violence on the individual, and the extent to which gore films reflect the most important features of contemporary society. Using the example of three selected gore films Lipowicz tries to demonstrate, that the subgenre points to fundamental existential problems and questions of social integration in the era of postmodernity.
The aim of the present article is a presentation of Wilhelm Reich’s works as one of the most important intellectual foundations of postmodernity. Particularly the propagated by Reich sexual revolution constitutes the kernel of contemporary cultural changes in the West. An important point of reference for Reich were the revelations of Bronisław Malinowski on the sexual life of savages. These convinced Reich that there is no necessary conflict between the satisfaction of sensual desires and cultural life, as Sigmund Freud proclaimed. In order to overcome the dualism between nature and culture in the western culture Reich deconstructed the ecclesiastic image of Jesus Christ. Instead of a savior Reich suggested that one should see in Jesus a man who proclaimed reconciliation between the forces of nature and the social life. In this way Reich tried to convince that in place of ascetic moral values the ones that promote sexual liberty and individual satisfaction should be placed. I will try to demonstrate that the ideas of Reich constitute a fundamental intellectual source of the contemporary western culture.
