The popularity's phenomenon of prose by Svetlana Velmar-Jankovic does not allow to pass indifferently by her incessantly growing literary attainments. What is more, it does not allow to pass uncritically by the wave of enchantment of her creativity, which has being lasted in Serbia for many years. She has managed to achieve her one's characteristic traits (good idea of theme and construction of story, the skill of 'jumping' into past time, using 'direct' communication). This article treats of the most important factors that are helpful while judging the real artistic value of certain works by the Serbian writer.

In the autobiographical prose of the contemporary Croatian writer Pavao Pavlicic one can distinguish three main motifs: river, street and town. This article is devoted to the last of the motifs, to the motif of his native town Vukovar. Vukovar is presented - first of all - as the stable and changeable reference point in the author's - protagonist's life. The town is also depicted as the place of bloody events from the early 90-ies, which provoke to deep reflection on the identity in the individual and collective context. The main aim of Pavlicic is the will to make important something that is not important as well as saving the town from being forgotten.

Pavao Pavlicic is one of the most fertile authors in commemorate Croatian literature. For the wider circle of readers he is famous for his crime stories that have been written continuously since 1976. In the 90s a new plot appeared in his stories. It was his family town - Vukovar. It was an answer for the events that were taking place in Balkans then. Pavlicic autobiographical compositions have no political associations though. They make literary trail to recover Vukovar from being forgotten. The art of Pavlicic confirms using two ways of telling the story: the infantile, the adult one and the skilful using stylistic devices like sensual description, spatial, ethical and esthetical modeling as well as personification.
