This study looks into Czech musical heritage works inspired by fears of Ottoman Empire expansion into Central Europe during the 16th and the early 17th century. It focuses on compositions for one or several voices, both sacred and secular, and characterizes their common features.
This article considers the role of music during the two most elaborate Prague festivities during the reign of Ferdinand I, in 1527 and 1558. Using extant narrative and musical sources, it tries to identify particular monophonic and polyphonic compositions that were performed.
