We learn from the materials left by SB (Security Service) and KW PZPR (Province Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party) how the society reacted to the news about the Warsaw Pact forces invading Czechoslovakia. A typical behavior was buying out large amount of food for substantial amount of money. It is proved, among the others, by bustle in PKO's agencies (General Savings Bank) and sale reports from the shops themselves. After the news was broadcast, there appeared flyers against the intervention written by the Bialystok Province inhabitants. A basic form of protest were spoken opinions condemning the intervention. Apart from them, positive comments appeared too. They are likely to have been partly caused by official information broadcast by the mass media.
