The disease constitutes a social phenomenon: it appears, lasts and disappears. It infl uences the rhythm of social life of the community. The epidemiological situation after Second World War conditions for various infectious and epidemic diseases to spread in West Pomerania. The aim of article has been to show the time of typhoid epidemic in the years of 1945–1948 in West Pomerania, to specify the causes of its appearance, the course and the organization of the fi ght with the disease. The sanitary institutions of the State Repatriation Department and Main Extraordinary Commissariat to Fight with Epidemics played an important in countering the epidemic.

The epidemiological situation after the Second World War created conditions for various infectious and epidemic diseases to spread in West Pomerania. The aim of the article has been to show the malaria dynamics in the years of 1945–1949 in West Pomerania, to specify the cause of its appearance, as well as the course and the organization of the fi ght with the disease. The group of special risk for the spread of the disease were the settlers, particularly repatriates who came from the former eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic to West Pomerania.

The article analyzes the occurrence of venereal diseases in Szczecin in the years 1967−1969. Special attention was paid to social and behavioral factors specific for a port city. Main courses of action in the fight against venereal diseases in Szczecin were emphasized. Szczecin, a large port city created favorable conditions for the spread of venereal diseases among the population. Among the various factors should be pointed out, inter alia, a high spatial mobility, a variety of occupational categories related not only to the maritime and urban anonymity contacts. It should be noted, however, that the observed increase in venereal diseases in the city in the analyzed period was the result of various factors.
