This presentation focuses on the question: what meaning does the Pontifical Biblical Commission in its documents promulgated after Sedula cura give to the Septuagint in our times? It seems that the references to the LXX appear in the latest documents of the Commission in a rather humble way and frequently ambiguously. The Septuagint is basically perceived as the Jewish Greek Bible. Since it is also the Christian Old Testament, identified and recognised by the Church, the Pontifical Biblical Commission accepts this fact, but in its reflection it does not assign a significant and adequate place to the Septuagint.

After studying in Rome and Jerusalem and conducting scientific explorations in Egypt, Eng-land, Holland, and France, Fr. John Mazerski served as a theologian and biblical scholar in Poland from 1933 to 1944. He was one of those scholars who in the fourth decade of the twentieth century reinvigorated Polish science, deepening expertise in biblical studies. He drew extensively on cur-rent archeological discoveries, particularly texts of neighboring cultures of Israel, to verify existing views. He believed that it is necessary in biblical exegesis to include the wider oriental cultural and religious environment because it has a significant effect on the shape and meaning of the biblical text. He included Jewish apocryphal literature among significant research sources. His study of the biblical texts in their original languages, search for ancient models which help to understand the biblical message, and respect for the Vulgate, the Bible of the Church, indicate that Fr. J. Mazer-ski was a biblical scholar, serving the Church in a competent and modern way. Unfortunately, he departed prematurely, dying in a bomb attack during World War II, only partially fulfilling his research, teaching and publishing intentions.

The fact of reinterpreting the Old Testament writings in the New Testament is a matter of course. The use of those texts for kerygmatic purposes is especially characteristic, especially as regards prophetic texts having an eschatological character. Both the person of Jesus and His message were identified and substantiated in this way. Texts undertaking reinterpretation concentrate on pointing out that Jesus is the One heralded in the Old Testament. Jesus is also presented in them as an exegetical authority. His argumentation shows some similarities to the method used in the texts of Qumran. This Judaic method takes on its own characteristics in the New Testament. One should probably speak here of an alternative pesher method in the New Testament. It also seems, that one might speak here of a common reinterpreting spirit in contemporary Judaism, of a kind of hermeneutic community, although the interpretation we find in the New Testament reveals obvious autonomic features.

Peszer jako metoda egzegetyczna

The pesher uses the texts of the Old Testament as a source of it’s proved. It reflects a classic way of thinking, where the elements of arguments, based on the Bible, show the principal problem in order to explain the reality. The pesher exegesis is a specific relecture of the Old Testament in order to accommodate it to people, communities or doctrines. The explanation is to fulfill the au- thoritative message of the Bible, which is focused on historical modernization of eschatology. The pesher has an allegoric tendency, hence it is close to patristic typological interpretation. This method precedes rabbinical Midrash.

Poor of Psalms is a faithful member of the people of Israel, who was in a state of emergency. This threat may be the nature of the social, political or religious.
